I think you should set up Face Recognition, I believe you will like it, specially during our winters and dry days.

    Thanks vf.

Well as you know I am into “instant gratification”, so waiting is not in vocabulary.

Yes, I had to reset my finger print scanner a few times, I can’t believe how I ever did without it.

I have been spoiled by the X, I try to use the same gestures on my iPad and I am sure will be quite frustrated with the scanner on it come winter.

I can live with a potential 58% speed slow down for a year, and then get a 2019 version. Too close to September to bail now.

Heck, it may not even be true.

It may not be true and even if it is, it may not be noticeable in real life.

Just out of curiosity, what chip do you have in your 7 plus and where did you get it from?

Okay, Intel. I use ATT service so the Model is A1784. I checked under settings.

I read that current iPhone Verizon and Sprint models use Qualcomm.

I think that I should have known that since the Intel Chips didn’t support CDMA previously. The new Intel chips will from what Macrumors writes.

So for me, getting the newest iPhone X will not exhibit any speed differences. I’m happy with the speeds now.

Good question, @charlyee. Now I can concentrate only on solving World Peace!

This 2016 article implies that the speed difference reason is murky anyways. So maybe Qualcomm’s statements are a little PR.

Thanks Vf, I was thinking you may have the Intel chip on your 7 Plus anyway.

Using AT&T service doesn’t mean you will have the GSM version Intel chip though, it more matters where you get it from.

I use AT&T as you know and I have the A1865 in mine, which is the Qualcomm CDMA/GSM chip. Apparently that is the norm with Best Buy, they only sell the Qualcomm. The SIM free from Apple store also has the A1865 chip.

I agree that some of Qualcomm statements are just PR.

PS: Another way to check is Settings > General > About > Model. Then tap on the model number on the right and it changes into the chip number.

My Asus Zenfone 2 uses an Intel chipset and modem and I've had zero issue or problems with it.

That’s good to know. Rumor has it that Death Star throttles the Qualcomm chip so the speeds would be closer to the Intel chipset.

    @charlyee

I got my 7 plus from Apple with the ATT SIM card included.

2 years coming up in September, although with the Apple program I could have switched out last year.

    @viewfly,

    Thank you.

Yes that was the same for my 7 Plus as well, from Apple with the SIM card already in it.

BB apparently does things differently, they gave me the X and an AT&T SIM separately, together with the activation instructions. I wonder if their phones come unlocked and putting the carrier SIM in it locks it - is this even possible?

I was never able to activate the new SIM and just put in the SIM from the 7 Plus. One of these I might go to AT&T and get a new SIM.

Congratulations on the 2 years coming up. The longest I ever kept a smartphone was the iPhone 5 for a year and 5 months, closely followed by the 7 Plus and the Treo 750.

However, my X and I have grand plans to grow old together happily.

That's what they've been saying on the AT&T forums; that BB sold iPhones lock to the first carrier's SIM placed in them.

Oh that’s interesting. I believe Verizon phones are unlocked, so I am presuming that if i had put in a Verizon SIM, it would remain unlocked?

I have had Apple leather cases since my first iPhone, which was 5, back in early 2013. I started suffering from withdrawal symptoms and succumbed to it by ordering the dark Aubergine, all the while hoping it won’t be bright purple.

Well, I got it this morning and it is just about black with a tinge of color and looks like dark red wine in bright sunlight. I really like it so far, it’s black but interesting.

Negative - it’s not as grippy as the Speck case and won’t protect as well in a fall.

Positive - I won’t have to worry about breaking my phone when taking the case on or off.

Didn't they start locking their phones this spring, saying it was to prevent theft.

That's what the announcement said. I haven't seen a VZW phone bought since Spring, so don't know if it went into effect or not.

Next week, my iPhone 7 Plus is paid off; its all mine!

    My precious! My precious!

So what to do with it, when I pre order the new iPhone X, 2018 version?

@charlyee. Question. How far can your place be away from the screen and the Face ID still unlocks the phone? Curious.

Hey vf, I tried it out this morning and got to about 30” with no issues. It might go further than that but I didn’t have a good way to try it.

For me and many others that don’t live on a tropical island paradise FID is definitely more dependable than TID. However, supposedly it doesn’t work so good if you are laying in bed and squinting at the screen. Lol

So question for you, assuming there will be three models as rumored, which one are you planning to get?

    @charylee

It would be the 5.8” OLED, the size you currently have, in the 2018 version. My attraction to the X was a smaller iPhone, but with a larger useable screen.

The 6.5” is too large. The 7plus is fine but I wouldn’t go larger than that. Pocket pant size being the concern. The 6.1” is the same as the 7 plus, but minus the twin back camera lenses, and that’s a big loss.

So the new 5.8” OLED is my choice.

Looking forward to not worrying about sweaty fingers while golfing to unlock the phone. 30”is more than enough, and I understand it works with sunglasses too so this is a dream come true for me!

I’m tempted just to get the X now....but it’s just a little bit longer to wait. First time I’ve had the same iPhone for 2 years.

BTW my original battery health is at 96%. Something to be said for charging every night regardless of charge. With these batteries, partial recharging is the best route to go.

That was my reasons as well and I am very happy with it. I am sure there will some tweaks to it as the second year usually has.

I met a young man yesterday, in his early thirties with the X, he said the notch doesn’t bother him but the lack of TID does. According to him the FID doesn’t work with his sunglasses, laying in bed, in bright sunlight etc etc. just warning you that not everyone is a happy camper but certainly majority are.

4 of us mods have it and 3 are happy and one has reluctantly accepted the FID.

Btw, AT&T in their great wisdom honored my unlock code for the X in less than 10 mins and after two payments. I put in the request just for the heck of it and fully expected an email stating “buzz off”.

Vf, here’s a tip for you learnt the hard way. If you get tired of the X turning on when you are wiping the screen and messing up FID detection, hold the phone up side down and screen will stay off.

Congrats! You mean Apple now sells unlocked models from the date of release and (unlike BB-sold ones) they won't lock to AT&T once you put the SIM in?

Appears so. All models. I bought through Apple site, on their upgrade plan, and tied to my ATT phone number. The sales summary said ‘unlocked’

You can go through the entire process on line to check for yourself. And then just do t hit the final buttons at the end.

    Seems like nothing is unlocked.
