Long time! When the next generation iPhone X comes out, I plan to upgrade. My 7 plus is getting on 2 years now. It’s in perfect condition and battery is 100%.

I like the smaller profile. Maybe the notch is gone. Improved camera.

    Anyone else?

    vf, long time for sure.

I was so surprised to see a post from you that I dropped my 7 Plus ( I kid you not).

Fortunately it was case side down, I hope my perfect condition 7 plus will still be as perfect.

Yes, I have thinking about upgrading my 7 plus, since I didn’t get mine until mid February, February 17 th. to be exact, my intentions are to wait for actual user reviews before making a decision.

The notch never bothered me but the lack of fingerprint scanner does.

Lol! I have that affect on iPhones.

My daughter loves her X: and other reviews here are good. The face sensor seems to work well, and is the newest change that I was concerned about. The fingerprint sensor works well but there are seasonal changes ( wet, dry or chafed fingers) that after it.

I probably will not be opening day, but soon afterward.

Good to hear from you. How your Apple Watch? More and more people are getting them.

My Apple Watch is right now on top of my list, I really like it and find it quite useful.

If I were to do it again, I would get the lte version, not so much for cellular connectivity but the back of that version is ceramic, as opposed to the composite (plastic) in mine.

My wife will likely keep her 8+ for another year, so I doubt she'll want to upgrade, but who knows. And the 6+ I'm using is definitely not being replaced for as long as it's actually usable :)

Being only a small difference in price, I had a similar thought. But the plastic has worked out fine. I used it for 2 years and then gave my series 1 to a friend and they continue to use it. It’s in good condition (back).

    LOL. I’ve done that also!

So with facial recognition, what if one becomes overly enthusiastic with their chocolate ice cream cone?

That's where the password entry comes in. While it is possible to type with your nose when your fingers are glued together, the case of the ice cream cone on one's face is more complicated. Perhaps carry some napkins when going out for ice cream, or wash your face if consuming on premises? Just thinking out loud.

So does the face recognition work with or without makeup?

Yeah fine, I know you two don’t care.

It's not like I don't care at all, just probably not for another couple of years and by then I'll surely learn the answer :D

I love my X. I thought I wouldn't like the fact that it's a smaller phone, but I actually like it. I've had no issues with Face ID and it works as advertised. Also, I've gotten so used to the gestures used on the X that at times, I accidentally use them on my 7 Plus. You won't even notice the notch after a very short time. Things I thought might be drawbacks aren't. Is it perfect? No. What phone is?

I have NO regrets getting the phone and look forward to the X Plus (or whatever they're going to call it) later this year. For me, the X is worth the money.

Thank you Vf. Here are my reasons:

    1. Retail therapy for 2/3 of my favorite teams losing in the round of 16, in FIFA 2018.

    2. BB is/was giving a $150 off sale.

    3. Wanted to sell my 7 Plus before the next launch.

    4. The size was getting to me, specially when walking.

    (All of the above)

    @charlyee

All good reasons. I would add the unreliability of the fingerprint sensor in these hot, humid summer days

Do you think the face sensor should be more reliable?

And is it possible that waiting for the next generation iPhone X will be more expensive with this China trade war?

    Thanks vf,

Yes, the unreliability of the fingerprint sensor depending on weather is also a factor. I think the Face ID would be more reliable at least so far it has been.

Will the trade war impact the price, who knows but it’s a possibility. If it can affect ketchup, it can affect anything.

PS: The screen is much better in sunlight.

Good luck with the decision making vf.

Like you I was determined to not upgrade until the new ones came out. I am glad I did, the size and the readability in the sun are definitely worth it.

Hello vf, I am surprised that you haven’t asked me about cases.

I got my first non Apple case since the 5 and am really liking it.

It was on clearance at BB when I got the X. I lucked out, the color was what I would have chosen anyway.

    Charlyee,

I got that very same case for my 7plus, and at B.B. under the same conditions. In white. I thought it very snappy, great grip and very protective too. Not one to take off frequently as it is a good tight fit.

I like it, and my wife even more so, so when she got the 8plus, to her it went. Easy to see inside her purse.

I did think it was a bit heavy, but that is because it has great protection, and that is what I wanted. And it was smaller than the Tech21 cases that I was using for those rugged days.

So a good choice. Right now, I’m still into the Black KAVAJ Tokyo cases.

Looks good, and congrats. I’d assume you would go for the Apple case, and the occasional ‘pretty one’. That is what is great about cases, makes it fun changing around.

    Here’s my 3 week review:

    1. The size is perfect.

    2. The screen is gorgeous and very readable in sunlight.

    3. It is fast and smooth.

    4. The battery life is as good as, if not better than my 7 Plus.

    5. Face Recognition works flawlessly so far - I love being able to see what came in without worrying about if my hands were clean etc.

    6. I do mind the notch when someone mentions it, but most of the time I forget it’s there.

    7. The phone has a premium look and feel to it.

    Did I miss anything?

Vf, I hope you don’t mind my hijacking your thread.

Do you the face recognition much? I have it on my LG G7 ThinQ, but I didn't set it up because it has the fingerprint scanner.

    No problem, Charlyee.

Nice review. I definitely expect to get the newest X version in the fall. I’m so close now, that I plan to wait.

I was cautious about the facial recognition, but it seems proven well now, and it will definitely help out when I have those seasonal and other changes in my fingerprint...i.e. moisture, sweat, etc.

    Vf
