Nothing in the near or immediate future has been reported, but keep in mind, this can change at any moment. Hopefully soon Rogers should get it (mostly because they are the only viable GSM carrier to release it on. Apple has not made a CDMA version, which would work on Telus or Bell).
whens is Rogers goin UMTS? i have a feeling that they will get the 2G iphone when the 3G one comes available, as they will be one of the only markets that would still want it.
It's funny that you bring this up. I was in Toronto today, and was actually remarking to myself on the amount of iphone I saw. Lot's of canadians have jail broken iphones!
Rogers just announced that the iPhone is coming to Canada later this year. They were probably waiting for the 3G version. iPhone finally coming to Canada - Engadget
Here's hoping they get the 3G version. All guesses so far is that it should be 3G, but with Apple being so cryptic, no one knows for sure. I'm sure Rogers is going to do quite well with whatever version comes out.
Visual voicemail, that is all. Everything else should work. Trust me, the visual voicemail is not that great. It is cool, but you can definitely live without it.
Why not? The phone does not know, nor does it care if its on an unlimited plan or not. Your data plan is whatever you buy. -Jay
Wirelessly posted (Treo 750: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6) UP.Link/6.3.1.17.06.3.1.17.0) Is the perhaps a limitation put on by the provider in Canada?
Rogers just confirmed they will carry the iPhone in Canada. The consensus is that it will be available as soon as possible, whatever that means. But everything seems to point to an availability timeframe during this summer, and it is speculated that it will be the 3G version! I heard this on the Cellphonejunkie podcast.
Not true, The 3g iphone will have faster internet but apple computer said," 3g takes up to much battery power." Which apple does not want that because then the iphone will not have the longest lasting battery out of all of the smartphone's on the market.
My take on the articles, and Apple's statements was that they did not want a 3G iPhone with a 3 hour battery life. I don't think Apple will ever make a smartphone with the longest battery life. They are too concerned with form. -Jay
What's "not true"? Clarify your statement. There's supposed to be an option for turning off 3G on the new iPhone, so what you're saying doesn't make any sense, Particular. It WILL be a better phone/media device than the first version.
Watch the SDK roadmap video, it will tell you everything. And i am Particular about what? The second gen iphone? Because the like i said, the SDK roadmap will answer all of your question about the second gen iphone and the up coming 1.1.5 firmware update. I have been useing apple computer's since 85 and i write some of the SDK for the new 1.1.5.
If there's an issue that needs to be clarified, perhaps it can be handle through private messages, please refrain from posting one liner replies that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.
You got your wish. The iPhone 3G is coming to Rogers (along with 21 other countries) on July 11th. Rogers and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Canada on July 11
And Rogers is wisely making the iPhone 3G available to Fido subscribers too. Gotta love corporate kinship.
