I have yet to check this out. But will, and post some more. An application, not an Apple firmware update.

    From phonescoop.com

Today Tiverias Apps announced a new application for the iPhone called GPush. GPush will send emails to the iPhone as soon as they arrive in a Gmail user's inbox so that emails can be seen instantly. The native email client on the iPhone does not support push email for Gmail, instead, it uses a pull method. GPush lets users take advantage of the iPhone's notification systems, such as vibrating and audio alerts. GPush will also show previews of incoming emails, displaying the sender's name and subject headings. The application costs 99 cents and is available in the iTunes Apps Store.

It's working...sometimes..but when it works it is very nice.

Since launch they have some hiccups. I think it will work out, it is a company backed via venture cap.
The appl is only launched once for set up; then it beeps, alerts or shows the From and Subject on your phone when an email is received. Your choice.

Sometimes it works instantly...sometimes this morning not at all. It seems to be getting better. Their twitter posts show that they are aware of the problem...not due to server overload since it is running only at 2% of capacity.

The thread title is a little misleading. Isn't this actually push notifications of gmail, rather than "push gmail"?

Re: iPhone gets push Gmail notification appl.

Yes I guess that is true, but I copied the intent directly from phonescoop.com, minus the 'Appl'

"iPhone Gets Push Email App for Gmail"

It's almost the same. When you open the real native email appl, the email is there, after a few seconds, even in manual fetching.

I'll change it if I can.

No biggie, you just caught me. I had seen the news about GPush the last few weeks before it finally hit the app store, and when I saw your new post, I thought hell had frozen over and Google had added Exchange mail support, or gotten with Apple to get IMAP push working. I can still hope for the future.

    Update:

This appl was not working all afternoon. Finally tonight I almost gave up on it. I know the guys are working on it, so give it time. I decided to erase my password, enter the same one again, and now it works, 8/8 times.

So if it keeps working it really is great. A good Apple notification example. The icon displays how many new emails you have (badge), it will show an alert if you wish ( From and one line Subject) and beep if you wish. Very quick, just like Exchange.

When you delete or read an email in Gmail (on the phone or your PC) the IMAP and push notifications instantly updates the badge number (of emails unread).

So this is the next best thing to Push mail, and really is almost the same thing, IMO. If I understand how this works, it will save battery life over Fetch and Push. I can leave them turned off, if I wish.

If you concerned about the $1, I'd wait a few days and watch this post to see if the good news continues.

Well, this application stopped working again. They posted and Twitter'd that they will refund the $0.99 for anyone who chooses not to wait while they fix it.

I'll give it some more time. I've wasted a buck on other applications that work, but have no useful purpose.

Some of the reviewers have suggested using PushMail, which seems to work pretty well (from the reviews). But at $4- $6 it is a bit pricey. And it involves forwarding all your mail to their servers. Hmmm. With Gpush one only allows Gmail to send notifications that a mail is waiting.

I'd hold off the $1 for a bit.

    Working Again!!! :) :):D

It takes about 4 seconds for the alert to appear after sending an email. If I read the email, the alert goes away in the same time period. One took 30 minutes.

Gotta feel for these guys...they must be working around the clock to fix the bugs...right now it is the top paid appl on itunes. And most of the reviews are negative.

This was just posted on the web sitel

    Dear GPush users,

All Credentials Should Now Be Accepted
Some Users from the GPush community have raised concern over their credentials being refused. At this time, unless the user attempts to submit credentials while the server is updating, the user should be able to login without an issue.

    Delayed or Missed Notifications
Thank you to all our users who have sent us emails letting us know about the issues you are facing with GPush. The main concern currently being raised by our user community is delayed or missed notifications. Please know that the programming team has isolated a few points in the notification process where the error seems likely to be occurring and are addressing the issue. Once the problem is resolved, the code will be uploaded to the servers and users will not need to download the application again.

If you would like to get in touch with someone from Tiverias Apps, feel free to email us at support@tiveriasapps.com.

    Best,

    Team GPush

    Dear GPush users,

Yesterday we launched GPush with our servers fully scaled to meet the needs of a growing customer base. At its peak usage, our servers were at 2% of server load. Yet, some users have experienced connection and notification issues. We are aware of these issues and are working on resolving them as quickly as possible.

    STILL NOT WORKING

DO NOT BUY THIS UNTIL IT IS POSTED TO BE WORKING.

I'm surprised the application store doesn't pull this or at least the vendor states that it is not working yet. There is nothing but silence and over 600 bad reviews. They must have pulled in a lot of money already.

When it works it is great. But it is way too flaky.

Save a buck and I'll keep you posted, if your interested. Apple and the vendor should really put a hold on this.

Yeah, I saw an article about that app last week but I haven't been able to try it because I haven't upgraded to 3.0 yet.

OK, THE CONSENSUS ON THE CHAT ROOM IS THAT GPUSH IS NOW WORKING .

This is a great application; actually better than real Push mail. Saves battery plus you preview the subject and from without have to go to the mail applications. Give you the same pop up as an SMS. But that can be turned off and just use the sound or badge counter.

Works only for one gmail account... future update will work with more gmail accounts.

It has been working all afternoon and into the evening, other concur.

This program now is working flawlessly! It is really great and finally something equally as good as Push gmail for the iphone.

What I don't understand is why Google didn't just do this themselves?

Anyhow, if you have an iPhone (3.0 firmware, not jailbroken), get this. It is a must.Saves battery life over fetching, and takes only 4 seconds to give you an alert of new gmail.
