See if the iPhone didnt have exclusivity agreements, it would've beaten Blackberry a long time ago.

LOL! all I know is that the existence of Windows Mobile demonstrates that people will buy just about anything you put on the market.

LOL, oh come now Windows Mobile is not that bad. I went from 2003 SE > WM 5 > WM 6 > WM 6.1, and remained unscathed. :D.

WM 6.1 was actually quite good and hopefully 6.5 is better yet.

I'm using 6.5 and like WM. In the end it's just a phone.

Well, of course it has to be good now. Copying from Apple has been MS job for decades. Now that Apple is in the mobile OS market, all the sudden WM gets better. LOL!

I just know that I didn't need to consult instructions to learn Palm OS or Blackberry. But with WM I was totally lost, and I'm very good at figuring things out without asking or consulting documentation.

I wasn't going to post this, but since MobileMike started it...

"Media research firm Nielsen today released its lists of top U.S. mobile phones, sites, and brands for the first ten months of 2009, and the iPhone 3G took the top spot among mobile phones with 4.0% of the market. The iPhone placed slightly ahead of Research in Motion's BlackBerry 8300 series at 3.7%, and well ahead of the remainder of the pack, which was led by Motorola's RAZR V3 series at 2.3%."

Broken down this way, the iPhone model beat the RIM Curve models across all carriers, vs just ATT. Pretty amazing sales records.

The RAZR V3, after all these years? Wow that's some following it has.
Lol, on the other hand, Win Mobile and Palm OS was a breeze for me but the BB needed a learning curve. I don't consult documentation either much more fun to learn by playing with it. :D

Yes ofcourse the RAZR V3 was never considered to be a SmartPhone.

It's been what, almost 5 years since it's debut, wasn't it sometime early 2005?

And just think where BB will be in the race with the iPhone, if they can embrace the Safari web browser or something similar.
Having both the iPhone and the Curve, the browser is the only thing I see that needs improvement.

Having both the iPhone 3GS and the Blackberry Bold 9700, I would say it will take more then a better browser...a better OS just to start...and smoother iTunes integration, plus many more applications in the store. But I'm not trying to start something...

I do think that the Curve's place will be moved down in favor for the 9700 though. The newer Bold is the Curve+++ (wifi, 3G,etc, etc).

I'd never would have imagined that a smartphone would dominate all the other phones...nor that the V3 would still be so popular!

The Curve is no match for the 9700 viewfly, I am refering to the statistics you shared with us. The percentages between the iPhone and the BB are pretty close, the BB app store is still pretty impresssive in my opinion. But again, it all comes down to a matter of choice. While the iPhone does have some features that are better than the 9700, it is not by all means a landslide either.

Ah yes, but can you imagine the lead the iPhone would have if it were carried by Verizon, Tmobile and Sprint? The chart is an unintended comparison between ATT, the exclusive iphone carrier and all the other carriers that have all versions of the Curve, over many years (like the V3 covers many carriers over 5 years).

I only mean that the 9700 will have a better match since it has more features, but there is more that separates the two devices than just the browser, by far. But this is my preference and is unimportant in the grand scheme of things. I use to tout that the BB were much more geared for email and messages. But having now played with both, I can no longer say that. I'm finding the BB OS good, but somewhat clumsy and outdated. BB needs a major update to keep up with Apple and now Google, again IMO. Clearly many prefer the OS type.

It depends, if it was an unbranded unlocked version like the first one i bought, it was late 2004 for me, if it was a Cingular version, it was around summer time of 2005.

Wow, i can't believe it's only been about 5 years since the Razr was born, for some reason it seems longer than that for me.

    Is that right....

The thing with the V3 is that it compiles all the series of the V3: V3, V3t, V3r, V3m, V3i, V3x, etc. and these launched over the course of several years on different carriers. So adding them up all together obviously gives you a big number.

As "old" as the V3's are, I still enjoy them. IMHO its still a beautiful little phone. I have several of them in my collection. Black, navy blue, bright red, apple green, and pink. I was disappointed with the Razr 2 though. It just didn't capture my heart like the original V3 did. Even the V3xx, although having a nice feature set looked kinda cheap with the chromed plastic trim. Not like the original that was all aluminum. Adding to the enjoyment is the fact that the original V3 was very hackable, so I was able to customize the phone's features to my liking.

I just looked at the numbers on that chart and was very surprised as well with the LG 9100 coming in at 2.1%, right behind the RAZR; now that is one model on one provider. LG must be doing something right, they did always make great CDMA phones from my experience.

I hate LG. Their phones always seem to be crap for my experience for the most part.

But I think I see why Blackberry is suddenly starting to become more popular, they are well advertised and do a lot of stuff for the general consumer too.
