    I use and love

Flashlight - This is really a great app to have around and there are a few to try

Yahoo weather - just love it

Walmart - love the price check and being able to scan a UPC code to add stuff to pick up to my shopping list.

Thanks Ironwalt, yes my flashlight app came in very handy during my last trip.
My current favorite weather app is eWeather HD. Absolutely dependable on my vacation, accurate location, beautiful graphics, and the ability to show the current temperature on the app. :)

Thanks Charlyee for the welcome back! I got the IPhone just a few weeks ago and just starting to get the hang of it so I came back to learn more and see if I can add anything. I checked out the eWeather HD app and wow! Not bad at all and only $1! I love it thanks for turning me on to it!

Not to be a fly in the ointment. But the Yahoo weather is the stock app in the notifications.
I am tempted to shut it off, I have been in the same location since I picked this phone up.

Interesting, you and location based weather apps do not seem to get along on any OS. :evillaugh

I have a couple of questions assuming that you have location turned on for the weather:

    1. Do you see the location arrow on the top of the screen when you access the weather?

    2. When you tap the weather statement in the Notification Screen, the app opens to the same city always, even though you are not there?

Here are three screenshots, maybe they will help understand what I am asking.

    1. Home Screen - see the location arrow on top right? Do you get this?

    2. Weather info in Notification Screen,

    3. Tapping the weather info on the notification screen opens the weather app. If you look at the bottom you will see there are 4 dots, I am on the first one which is location based, the other 3 are fixed locations.

    Is yours displayed differently?

PS: you can also go into Settings>privacy>Location Services and see if the weather app has recently used your location.

Thanks Charlyee. I have done everything you posted here. And yes there is an arrow showing it is pulling my location.
I am going to disable the weather in the notification screen. Thanks much

You have Celluar data turned on?
Today's Summary is on in Notifications?
You have the right weather app on in Privacy settings.

You just wish to toggle all of the above. And maybe restart the phone.

    Just some thoughts.

Just how far is it off in location ? Does Maps or Google Maps give you the right location?

It's really a min. setup app. Baffled here.

Do other weather maps work? TWC for example?

I bought the phone in Natick, that's 30 miles from me.
I wasn't aware of the weather in the notification. So I am not sure if it got stuck in Worcester after that.
I work in Worcester so I found it odd, that the weather was locating there when I got home Sunday, which is 15 miles from my house.
eWeather has been accurate, as well as Google, and Apple maps.
Charlyee suggested getting a replacement phone, but that isn't what I want to do if I don't have to.
It took me 3 days to set this phone up the way I want.
I as we'll am completely baffled by this. Thanks again VF and Charlyee for your help.
Update: I moved another 5 miles from my house. eWeather quickly changed location.
As well as both Google and Apple maps.
Whereas, the stock weather was slow to change but it updated.
That is good news. I really didn't want to make a trip back to the Apple store this soon.
Car trouble this morning, my heater broke so no defroster.
Thanks again Charlyee and VF for your help, I appreciate it.
And yes Virginia, I am still loving the 5C and the IOS experience.

You got more important things to worry about today with your car.

I think there is no hardware problem. Notification weather will change with location. The actual weather app however , if opened from the app, has to be in the left most screen to open with local weather. If you leave it in another it will stay there. That's the design.

Sometimes it shows only where the nearest weather station is, not your gps coordinates. That's actually more truthful. Or perhaps the one in your town is off line. I've seen both. True, the weather apps can lie and tell you the gps location but get the weather from 30 mikes away. The weather is not likely to be different.

Sorry to hear about your car troubles but glad to hear that the weather app did update location, although I don't understand why it would be slower than the others but at least it did update.

I agree it doesn't sound like a hardware problem, so no point driving out of your way to the Apple Store.

Just a couple quick observations/questions before I give up on you:rotfl:

The notification screen does not give the location for the weather just the temperature and some verbiage, so when you see "Wustah", are you opening the app itself to see it?

    Or

Tapping the weather info from the notification screen which takes you to the app and the city it thinks you are in?

Glad to help, hope it gets sorted out. As vf said it is just minimalistic app and not much to go wrong.

    Good luck with your car.

And yes Charlyee, I opened the app. And it still said Worcester.
At least I know it is not a hardware problem. The app does at times update.
Right now we're in Millbury, Worcester is only a mile away.
The weather did not update, but eWeather did. It is what it is.

Thanks, I will venture a guess and say that's what city you last left the app in. Right now mine says Kolkata, which is the weather I checked last.

There are two ways to open the app to the location based weather:

    1. Tap the weather verbiage on the notification screen and it should open the app to the weather at your present location. This is what I do.

2, Open the app directly and swipe all the way until the the farthest left dot, also the location arrow is highlighted.

Try both and if see if either method accurately shows the city you are in.

    Good luck

How about adding one for your actual hometown? That way you increase your odds of seeing the right location.

Click on the multi line icon at the lower right of the screen. Then scroll down and click the + sign.

    Just a thought.

I added my location where I live. But for some odd reason, it still pulls in Worcester. What's even more odd.
I was in Dudley, and where my friend lives,is more off the beaten path than my house.
Yet, the weather still pulled up his town.

    Joeseph,

Don't get too hung up with this. After all, what really is the weather in Worcester, MA? You'll see what I mean in a bit.
First, Apple uses Yahoo weather for its native app....and you will see in Yahoo, that the data comes from The Weather Channel ;)
There are only fixed weather stations. Each company does not have its own.

Going to wunderground.com (another weather web page) actually gives you WHERE the weather data comes from for temperature, wind. Of course weather prediction comes from dozens and hundreds of weather stations. Clicking around a bit, I learned that the weather data for Worcester (for Wunderground) comes from a station on Thorton Road, in Worcester.
But, in fact, you can chose another station if you please.

Below is a map form Wunderground that shows the weather stations around and in Worcester, Mass. So what does your weather GPS says is not really too important, since it will be from the area around Worcester that could include Millbury. I think these weather apps are that interactive...others may just call it Worcester, but as you can see...there really is not one weather station in the center of Worcester.

    For iPhone 5S users.

The extra low power chip, the M7 in the 5 S automatically counts a variety of things. Basically a pedometer built in that takes a running seven day sample of your motion.

Quite a few free and paid apps that use this data including Apple maps.

I downloaded Pedometer++ for free to measure my walking during the day.

Another, which I already have is Runmeter. I also purchased 24/7 which measures your walking too. It also uses the camera and led to measure your heart pulse rate. Plus it will record your movement during the night and audio record your sounds, display all in a graph. I was able to listen to my deep sleeping period and hear my light snoring. LOL

Makes one wonder what is left for the Apple smart watch. Anyhow it is fun to acquire this stuff. It was something that was done on the 4S and 5 with the right app, but the power drain is much less with the new M7 chip. It goes to sleep when not in use.

The M7 chip in the 5S is separate from the main M7 processor.
