KJ, there is no limited edition black or any other color. The black and the jet black are in short supply specially for the 5.5" screen and has a long lead time.

PS: I do see some totally ridiculous prices on eBay specially a Verizon version unlocked 7 plus in Jet Black being $2500. No idea who would buy it or is it even legitimate.

In the Apple Store the same model and color is $969 with shipping in November. I am pretty sure when the phone is bought at full price, it can be unlocked with a simple request.

@charlyee: I didn't know that. I was told by an iPhone enthusiast that the jet black was a limited ed. I truly don't follow Apple products except for a perfunctory, cursory review.

@charlyee supposedly my iPhone 7 is unlocked already. I paid off my 6S and did Apple payment plan (interest free).

@dmapr. Enjoying the big screen. My apologies for ever statement I every made that I would never get a bigger screen. And it works without cargo pants too.

I have the normal black like Charlyee. Not the shiny jet black.

@KevinJames. Did you mean the Note 7 with 128 Gb? Not 64.

Oh that's interesting, I didn't know that phones bought on the Apple Payment Plan were unlocked. I figured the phone had to be completely paid off for it to be unlocked. I might try going that route next time.

    Thanks for the information.

@viewfly. The Note7 is being sold with only 64GB memory. (After opening link, scroll down to "Memory" and in that section see "Internal.") For me, that's plenty. I keep all my docs and music on the SD card anyway -- which was a lifesaver when I had to go through this fiasco with the Note 7 exchange. The 256GB micro SD card was overkill for me, but since it was free, I thought "why not."

Okay, that makes the Note 7 more expensive than the iPhone 7 Plus, plus one gets 64Gb more internal memory with iPhone.

That should put to rest, that Apple is more expensive.

First battery cycle. 20% left. Never quite got below 10% before I decided to recharge.

Have to say that I'm finding the Plus more natural in my paw sized hands, especially for typing.

Matte black is a very nice color choice.

    Seems like a keeper.

Here are some observations from my recent overseas trip:

    First the good

With my AT&T SIM my 7 was quick to hop on to the available network/s, most times faster than the local SIM in my Nokia for the same network.

Except for within the wildlife sanctuaries, where no towers are allowed I had excellent signal everywhere.

The wifi must also have been upgraded, it was stronger on the phone than on my iPad 2. Typically it has been the other way around.

The biggest surprise for me was the battery, I typically used it for taking pictures, navigation, compass, night sky, health app, stock market, news etc and at the end of the day I still had at least 30-35% left. I recall having to charge at lunch for my other iPhones and with similar usage.

The black leather case did very well and shows little to no wear. My olive brown 6/6s leather case did not hold up as well under the same usage

    Now the bad.

The built in data counter for Roaming Data does not agree with AT&T. I had 285 mb per the phone and 306.55 per AT&T. On my previous phones specially 6 and 6s, the two have been within a couple of mb of each other.

Overall I am very happy with it.

Nice post, Charlyee. Most of your observations agree with improvements that were part of the 7 series ( wifi I pretty sure was part of it and certainly the battery). Maybe the foreign provider is skimming off the stop ( since they are counting larger than than the iPhone)?

Happy that you are pleased with the phone. I finding mine to be a great product too. Really enjoying the larger screen.

Thanks vf, I have never compared the data usage between the phone and AT&T while in the country. I will do that with the start of my next billing cycle and see how they compare.

Yes I do really like the phone and the black case gives it the stealth look.

    Glad you are liking yours.

Good to know 7 is an improvement. Maybe I'll get one for my wife.

Can't remember the last time I went anywhere outside US with an AT&T SIM in my phone :) Especially if it's more than 2 days ;)

I finally remembered to reset the data counter on the phone and compare it to AT&T at the end of my billing cycle.

So there is 6.08% difference with AT&T counting higher. To me that's in line with what happened overseas, on the 300 mb roaming data, the iPhone would be showing 18 mb less.

That's pretty substantial and to the best of my recollection none of my iPhones starting with the 5, has ever done this. Hopefully it will get taken care of in the not to distant future.

Interesting, Charlyee. I never cut it that close, 18Mb, while overseas, so I don't think about it much. I'm either much less under or greatly over

I would have thought the roaming counters would have the greatest variances.

Since you average 0.08Gb per day, how to you synch the exact time of the counter with ATT on the first and last day of the month?

Sorry I am not quite sure what you mean by that.

    Good question

I presume AT&T starts counting at midnight and stops at 12:01, so I make sure I am on wifi before going to bed those two times and then reset the counter.

    Well done, Charlyee!

I just meant that there could be a lag between the iPhone roaming counter and what an overseas provider tells ATT. Although in your case, the iPhone undercounted.

    And Happy New Year!
