Anyone get one? Thoughts and opinions?

I've got the money set aside and have for awhile. I really wanted an original ipad, but waited as I kind've wanted one with the camera to be able to use it for web talking, etc.

waiting for some of the madness to die down--but also waiting to see what's up with any google tabs coming out this summer.

I bought the 3G model from Verizon. I got the 3G model since I would activate 3G when I am not near Wi-Fi (which so far hasn't been the case due to using it at home). I decided to do that since it will come in handy when traveling. My initial impressions are that it is light, very easy to use, and has excellent screen resolution. I have not tried it outside yet to see how it behaves under direct sunlight. I was originally looking at both Android tablets and the iPad 2. I chose the iPad 2 due to more app availability, full Netflix support via the free Netflix app, and ease of activating 3G data (See below).

Android tablets are nice, but the iPad 2 will work better for me since there isn't an activation fee when activating data on it. That way, I can activate Verizon 3G for a month at a time (perfect when traveling), and then cancel and re-activate data at a later time when I need to do so (and not get charged a $35 fee every time). I will eventually get around to posting a review on WA, but I have been too busy lately. My work schedule will begin to slow down towards the end of April, so I will have a chance to do so then.

I'm typing this on my 4 day old iPad 2. I really like it, does 90% of what usually would fire up my laptop for and is much more portable. The big reason I went iPad over an Android tablet was Netflix support. I do wish these were a 16 x 9 aspect ration like the Motorola Xoom, but it it still works well for media.

I have moved this thread from the Roaming Zone to the Apple forum.

I'm also going to suggest to Joe that this thread merely be for Apple products, as the iPad is a legitimate wireless device, just like the iPhone, minus the phone part.

It may also be time to add a Tablet forum...

Okay I look forward to that :). That is good you can get a one month service to use with it. I'm probably only going to do the wifi version only as I would like it for home and a few places I go that I know I have wifi available. Depends on the money too.

I have an love my little iPod touch which is perfect for traveling etc as it conveniently fits in my purse. Would probably be to chicken to haul around my IPad. :)

Yes so many more apps for the apple systems. And Netflix is a big thing for me as well.
In fact it is one of the deciding factors in my equation. Did you get the white or the black iPad? I went into the store and just played around with the iPads. The white looks really cool and crisp and I know it's only a optical illusion but it looked more widescreen compared to the black even though I know they are the same size. I'm mostly concerned how watching a Netflix show will look with the stark white around it versus the black which looks more square. I also noticed a small gap between where the screen ends and the bezel began but you don't notice it at all on the black one.
It's the silly things like that that I'm trying to decide. I guess I could always put white paper around my tv and see how bad it bugs me. LOL

Very true on the 16 x 9. I also went into best buy and fiddled around with a zoom. First of all spendy little bugger! But there things I liked about it to. the one thing I definitely thought was very poor was the imbedded videos wouldn't play even on their homepage :(. My understanding is it had something to do with the flash?? Supposedly going to remedy that one soon. But as I mentioned to Gamer Netflix is a big thing too. No point in getting a xoom right now because Netflix won't work :(
I just wish there was a way around the no flash thing.
So which color did you get? :)

You did actually. :) We don't have an actual place specified for iPads and other tablets. I felt this thread was better served in the open forum, as only members have access to the RZ. Posting it in the RZ was a logical place for it. If I weren't a Mod, I would have done so too.

Feel free, in future, to post any iPad related items in the Apple forum.

I've already put in a request with Joe (JFB) about modifying the Apple forum title, and/or created a forum for tablets. My guess is it may be too soon for tablets to have their own forum, but the iPad is different, considering its success the past year.

    kjo,

I bought the black Verizon 3G iPad 2. The full Netflix support via the app is one of the main reasons that I choose the iPad 2 over the Xoom. I also played around with the Xoom at Best Buy for a while before deciding on the iPad 2. While the Xoom is nice, it is slightly heavier so during longer times when using it (I hold my iPad 2 with one hand and use my right hand to type), I figured it may eventually seem to feel heavy over time. The downside is that the cameras on the iPad 2 (both front and back) don't have as high of resolution as the Xoom. That issue does not bother me too much, since this will not be used for taking pictures or movies (that is what my 8 MP Droid X is for).
