Apple introduced iOS 7 at the WWDC keynote speech yesterday, amongst various other things. Some of you maybe more familiar than others with the changes but most have a basic idea of wheat transpired. What is your take on it, please clarify, what you like and what you don't, and also what you expected but didn't happen. I will start: What I like - the control center. What I would have liked to see - more information in the calendar app, at a minimum the number of appointments, kind of like it shows on the Reminders app. Please note you don't have to own an iDevice to have an opinion and post. Thanks much.
IOS was long overdue for an overhaul. I don't have a preference as to what I like. But it is nice to see IOS copying Android with the control center. :-D
The forums are flooded with fanboys claiming Apple copied from BB or from Android. What is interesting to me is that no one is claiming Apple copied from WP and that's what the icons and layout changes remind me of, too bad they didn't copy the Live Tile concept as well Sent From My Mobile Device Using Tapatalk
I beg to differ From iOS 7 announced: new look, Siri, multitasking, toggles and more - GSMArena.com news
I ignore the comments. It's flooded with fanboys making unnecessary comments. It's nice to see IOS making some changes to the OS. And I agree, it does have a WP appearance. The live tiles would have been nice. There is something for everyone in each OS. It all depends upon what your needs are.
iOS 7. I like it. It takes a very well polished OS and just makes it better. It feels like when iOS 3 or 4 came out. Upgrading to it make your old phone seem new. It didn't really feel like a burden going to settings to turn wifi or BT on/off. But the new control center is nice to have. I like the addition of AirDrop, but InstaShare was working fine too. But AirDrop will be on all iOS7 machines, which makes it more universal. Not sure I care for the 'flat' look, or the new skinny font. Will just have to wait and see. Never had a need for multitasking, but good to have it...if it takes no battery life away. Like many things that Apple does, (and other systems too), they took a lot of 3rd party app functions and integrated them into the main iOS. That is fine. The look and feel of the 'parallax' background in the wall paper will be neat to see. Like the control, weather, notification and Safari changes. Also, SIRI being having more functions will be useful. I haven't been through it all yet. I do like the better organization of the photo library. That was always lacking and I never understood why. This is not about copying. Enough copying has been going on both ways. I don't really care. What does surprise me is with Apple trying to appease all the naysayers about iOS vs Android, is that they didn't give the option to have a fully custom 'home' screen. That option never appealed to me, but it is a big point when I drill down to what some people mean about 'freedom' - comes down to the home screen tailoring. Looking forward to iOS7. I'm so embedding in the iOS-Mac ecosystem, it would take- well I can't think what it would be- to make me change. Some little thing is not going to lure me to go through the expense and headache of a OS and hardware change.
I don't necessarily want the home screen to be completely customizable but it would nice if I didn't have a full row of icons to be able to place them more uniformly and not always left justified. I am looking forward to iOS7 as well; we have dev in our Group and I am liking the screenshots he is posting and the comments he is making. I am pretty embedded as well but my phone is an exception always. I had Androids with my iPad and MBA and WP with my iPad, MBA, and MBP, so anything can happen but so far iOS is helping me to stay with the iPhone for sure.
That is what I mean. Apples go best with Apples. I think iOS 7 will please most everyone. Sent from my iPad Mini using Tapatalk
This the home screen is from a JB iphone5 (not mine). This is my idea of home screen customization. Sent From My Mobile Device Using Tapatalk
Yep, and I wonder why Apple didn't give people that. Seems to be what most wanted. Well it's still beta and fall is a long way off.... Sent from my iPad Mini using Tapatalk
I think it's beautiful from a design standpoint, and the new functionality all looks to be quite welcomed. The use of white space, color, and font treatment is impressive, especially in the calendar. It appears that the focus on context and the new gestures will result in an excellent user experience. I'm interested to see if the use of parallax is beneficial or gimmicky. The only thing that I would have liked to have seen but that isn't there is an option to remove the built-in app icons.
I have been using iOS 7 since the WWDC keynote on Monday. I like the new design overall, I was getting quite tired of the past iOS appearance. The new icons do take some getting used to, but they are fresh in my opinion and I like that. I love the transparent 'layers' motif throughout the UI. It is especially enjoyable in the Messages app. Task switching is great (they should have done this when they first introduced it). I really like the command center, no more jumping into settings every time I need to turn off/on WiFi or bluetooth. The gestures are very slick in the Messages, Mail, and Safari apps. I also like the redesigned notification tray, especially the new "Today" view. I have tested the new Facetime Audio feature quite extensively over the past few days with a few other i5's that I loaded iOS 7 onto. For those that haven't heard of Facetime Audio, it is basically Facetime w/o video (go figure). It operates and appears just like a regular call would on the screen, except the calls are amazingly clear. It literally sounds like the person is talking directly into your ear as if they are standing right next to you. If you have any specific questions, let me know and I'll try my best to answer them. Edit: the parallax feature is quite subtle, but I like it. It's a small detail that adds to the overall UI and adds some depth to the screen.
Nice review TWX. I have an old 4 that I'll install iOS 7 on next week to check it out. Probably my old iPad retina too. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk

I believe I read somewhere that Flickr is integrated into the OS, is this correct? If so how easy is to upload photos to Flickr directly from the phone. Thanks much Sent From My Mobile Device Using Tapatalk
A co-worker was explaining the new push trigger feature in iOS 7. It's when... it's like push on Android
taking photos and uploading new and stored photos from the current Flickr app is very easy. I'm sure the integrated version will be as easy. BTW, Flickr just announced a couple of weeks ago, that everyone gets 1 TeraB of free storage. Yes, 1 TB!
Thanks vf, how about sharing an album with a friend, can that be done from the app as well? Sent From My Mobile Device Using Tapatalk
Of course. You can share a photo or album with friends via an email link. Or Facebook, tumblr, twitter. I should also say the 1 Tb of photos are full resolution. That's a change for Flickr. I haven't used it much, but I'm returning to it. I've mainly been using personal photo streams from Apple. All of these are very similar. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk
Thanks vf, I have always used Picasa which has worked well but if Flickr is going to be built in, I would give it try. la de da Sent From My Mobile Device Using Tapatalk
Huh. In ios 6, in the iPhoto app, one can beam a photo(s) via Bluetooth or iOS devices on the same wifi network. It's under the share option. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk
vf, I am not sure what you mean or if the reply is to my Flickr/Picasa post. Just to clarify, I use Picasa for sharing photo albums with friends or family that are not physically anywhere near me. I was thinking of migrating from Picasa to Flickr if it turns out to be easier with iOS 7. Sent From My Mobile Device Using Tapatalk
Ha! Just wasn't sure where to post this just found feature. We were talking about AirPlay and photo sharing. Nothing to do with Flickr or Picassa. Not even iOS 7 My bad! Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk
Well to start, IMHO, iOS7 looks like a cross between iOS, Windows, and Androids platform. Nothing wrong with this in my book as Apple has definitely integrated some nice long overdue features from the other 2 platforms. I really like the new multitasking system now as it reminds me of the Jailbroken feature called "Auxo" that I am currently using on my iPhone 5. I will like iOS7's feature better as they have made the app view much larger than that of Auxo.... Overall There are many other features that I like about iOS7, most of which just might take away my need to jailbreak future iPhones. Sent from my iPad Mini using Tapatalk 2
That would be the nicest complement Apple could get- if some people stop jail breaking! Good to see you here Irish. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk
