I recently discovered 2 developments at Cingular that are not (yet) on their website. Here in Western MA (TDMA area), the local Cingular company-owned store had a sign outside saying night-time off-peak minutes begin at 7 PM! I called the store and they said it was for local plans. I hope this bodes well for other areas, and maybe the National Plan someday. Also while checking minutes on a Cingular pre-paid phone, a recorded message said that within a few months the pre-paid will go national with a network-type plan. Off-network roaming will be 95 cents per minute. I expect it will still have 10 cent night and weekend minutes and 3 month expiration periods. Time to compete with Verizon Free-Up!
It still won't compete with FREEUP, since there is the new Virgin Mobile, so they'll be so many choices now. They should have done this a long time ago. Unless they add some free minutes (like FREEUP), I don't see either of them competing.
