If someone loses their phone, pays $50 deductible, gets a replacement, and then finds the phone, will the recovered phone (which was reported lost) be able to be activated on another account? (this is all on Verizon Wireless)
No you cant do that. When you report a phone as lost, the ESN number is flagged and cannot be activated. It prevents theft of handsets and fraud, which is what you have described.
Not true. I had lost a VX4400 and filed a claim. A few days after receiving my insurance phone i found my lost phone. I ask a Verizon rep if i can sell the phone and have someone else activate it. I was told i can sell it, but only i can activate it. So what i did was activate it on a FREEup account and then sold the phone with no problem.
Your definitely not supposed to be able to do that when you report a phone lost or stolen. Perhaps Verizon allowed you to do it, but they shouldn't have. That opens the door to all sorts of insurance fraud among other things, and isn't allowed.
Quote: I was told i can sell it, but only i can activate it not quite sure what you meant, but i think that rep made a mistake, because normally you can't do that.
I have a question: When you lose your phone or break it and pay the $50, does this get you your same phone? one of my friends said one rep told him he could chose whichever phone he wanted (if this were to happen), but I find this VERY hard to believe. I am assuming its they will give you the same phone you broke/lost and if they no longer have it they will give you something comperable but better?
for future reference: can i claim insurance from any Vzw store or do i have to go back to the one i got it from... ( i got mine from an independent retailer...)
i would think that if you didnt buy the insurance through verizon you need to go to the insurance agent you bought it from
If you are being charged for the insurance on your monthly bill, you just need to call Verizon customer service. If the phone was lost or stolen, you will need a police report.
If you go to a store they will give you the number of the insurance company to call. You will have to get it from the insurance company.
only my dealer is 3rd party... i got insurance thru vzw... as in verizon bills me for the insurance....
