I'm asking this only out of curiosity because I never went inside a tower equipment hut but I already saw a few picture on the net. Anyone here ever entered a cell site equipment hut? How it's like inside? How about the fan noise? For the techs : How it is like to work at cell sites ? Do you like having the privilege to access a cellular shelter where there is a high level of security and only a few lucky people are allowed inside? How do you felt the first time you entered a shelter? Were you scared touching anything that could possibly mess something up? Any other interesting stories or facts? Thanks alot :cool2:
Yes. Usually small, lot's of equipment racks. Like standing next to a F-16 I'd rather be eating a pizza and bowling, but that doesn't pay well. I never looked at it that way. I'm going to have to wear my sunglasses next time. Like I needed a coffee. Actually, I have that feeling every time I walk in a shelter. Yes. That's why I try to touch only the stuff that's already broken
Officially, no. But since I'm usually the only one there, I bend the rules a little If I spill some on the equipment, I'm in a bunch of trouble tho :O Mostly, yes. But can be stressful/frustrating at times when there's problems that need to be fixed urgently and I can't figure out a way to fix it.
Yeah, that's the same as any other technician job: it's all about troubleshooting. I work as a maintenance tech so I see alot of shelters and frankly, although every setup is different, the purpose is always the same. The racks will be at different places inside the building but most of the time you will find the same stuff in any shelter (of course for the same carrier but I'm sure other carrier shelter would be the same with different equipment brands). White walls, fluorescent lights, dark grey flooring, F16 fans noise; that's the standard. Weirdest thing i found inside a shelter? a pair of snowshoes, a stereo deck, a bookshelf, a car battery charger and a complete office desk (wtf!) Most of the time, shelters are damn clean. Yes, first time I went inside a shelter I was excited. I still am to this day. Yes I love my job. Cell sites are the best place to work. No one bothers you (unlike previous offices jobs I had). Remote sites are the best. I don't think coffee is allowed. I drink it outside.
