I just started working somewhere and verizon cell phone will not work inside the building. 200ft dowon on the opposite side of the road is a cell tower. I have looked up on cellreception.com and the tower is not listed there. After stopping by the base of the tower, it is owned by American Tower corp, but there are no other verifyable makings telling who is on the tower. I looked up the ATC site, and came up with the information that the Client was Metro PCS.

Seeing as I don't want Metro PCS, how can I tell what carrier is on the tower? Can you tell just by the type of antenna on the tower?

If you want more info, it is the Keys site for ATC with the Site number 91734

This is the link to that specific tower's site:
    American Tower

From T Mobile, it look like they are on that tower from what it looks like on their coverage page.

Is there an AT&T Antenna on the pole??

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Looking at the size of the installed antennas will only tell you what frequency band, 850 MHz cellular or 1900 MHz PCS, is in use. Since you're not receiving a VZW signal from 200 feet away, it's a safe bet that Verizon Wireless is not on that particular tower.

The photos show five sets of antennas. The newest (likely lowest) would be the Metro PCS you learned of. The others should be AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile, Sprint and/or Nextel, and Cricket (pick four of the five listed). Older names like Cingular and Voicestream might be visible.

Since you've found the sign at the gate denoting the tower owner, American Tower, it's time to look at labels on electric power meters (one per carrier). Also look for AT&T/SBC/Ameritech labeled phone line terminals for each carrier. Both of these are commonly mounted on a 4x8 foot plywood sheet supported by a pair of posts, outside the fence near the gate If the electric meters are inside the fence, they will be visible through the fence (reading for billing, of course).

Let us know how your inspection goes. Check from the street if possible, next best is the access driveway. The sidewalk in the building drawing comes close, also.

Can you invite a friend with AT&T to drive by work and check his bars? Otherwise, visit FindCellSites and get more clues.

That's who is providing local wire-line service to the compound and it has no bearing on what carriers may or may not be located on the tower.

Well it has 5 or 6 different companies leasing space on the tower, so I would be willing to bet AT&T is one of them...

Cricket doesn't provide service anywhere in Michigan. MetroPCS is on the tower, and they are the bottom set of panels. AT&T, Sprint, Nextel, and T-Mobile are also on there. It would appear that the only carrier not on that tower that covers the Flint area is Verizon. It's kind of shocking that Verizon doesn't cover that area well because Verizon is known as being one of the best carriers in Michigan, besides Alltel.
