I don't know if it is only on the BB. As far as I know, any phone being used as a modem will do the same. It could be that Sprint has set things up so that a tethered session (which can be very long) will allow calls through so that you don't spend 5 hours tethered and possibly miss tons of calls. Sprint may figure that handset originated data sessions will be short enough that it isn't worth interrupting them for a call.

Yeah I think you figured it out. It's dependent on the phone type.

The same does not use 800 and 1900 at the same time. It uses one or the other.

This is not the case on the Sprint network, but on the Verizon network (at least in my area) data sessions are put on hold when an incoming calls comes in.

This has always been this way while on Verizon's EVDO network, but is relatively new while using data on 1x. The data session is just put on hold when an incoming call comes in, so your choice are to either take the call, and after the call is finished, my data session will continue and finish sending/receiving what I was trying to do, or I can ignore that call and it will finish whatever I was doing. I'm not sure how you would not want the ability to receive incoming calls while doing data; It seems an advantage to me to be able to have the choice of whether or not you want to take the incoming call, or ignore it (which means either finishing your data session right then or later). Seems like a no brainer to me.
