I'm ready to throw this thing across the room and smash it into a wall!

Over 1/2 the time, I'll get off a call, that had 3-4 bars, and begin to dial out and suddenly my 1x goes to 0 bars, resulting in my phone not being able to call out. The 1x stays at 0 bars for about 1-4 minutes and then will get back up to 2 bars, which is a minimum for me to dial out successfully.

So, I have another 2 months before I can take advantage of the Annual upgrade program through the VZW My Account program....should I wait? Is there something else I can do with this POS?

What should I replace it with? I have had good luck with Motos and Samsungs in the past....any suggestions now?????

    TIA!!!!

I'm sure that if you look through the recent posts for Verizon you'll find a thread specifically answering your question as to what current handsets are recommended and which are supposed nightmares. As for the phone itself, that sounds like an issue with the phone, I would suggest calling Verizon CS, perhaps there's a firmware update they can push to your phone. Best of luck.

If it was my phone I would be at a Verizon store NOW, getting a warranty replacement if its been less that a year of if I had the 1.99 insurance up to 2 years. Of course a simple FLASH may do the trick. Then you will be much happier with the phone. This happens with all types of phones. Good Luck. Let us know how you make out.

Jodi-You know my wife has had hers for over a year now and there is no such problem like you have been having. I would take it into a store and see what they will do for you. Sorry it does sound like a phone problem. You are not havinng a dual cell tower bounce off problem are you??

    Good point on the towers.
Last night I had a drop in signal in my home area, 2600 feet from a cell site.
On all of my phones, we norrmally get full signal at home. It was up and down all night. I reported it. Today so far its fine again.

Also: I have a friend with a Razr it often shows no bars yet it can make calls under that condition.

VZw should check your area and the store should check the phone. Of course you pulled the battery and recycled the phone. Are you in or near a fringe area. Update the PRL if so. Ask if there have been any coverage changes too. Good luck

Thanks everyone! It sounds like I need to take it in to my VZW store first and go from there.....

What SW/VER do you have on your LG 8300. I had reception issues like yours in certain areas using S/W Version V01. After having my first 8300 flashed to V03, all of the signal fluctuation problems that I was experiencing were resolved.

Of course you will tell them all of that information. However, it is possible just like your computer for the softwear to get corrupted. They may want to reload it and this may work. Although, they may just hand you a new phone. Good luck please let everyone here know how it works out for you and how Verizon treats you. All the best.

UPDATE: I went to my corporate VZW today and let tech support look at the phone. I also told them that my bluetooth on this phone was awful and after trying 3 different headphones and it still not connecting, that it was a problem as well.

They reprogrammed the phone and told me because the phone isn't a year old yet that if it happens again, they would replace the phone. As I sit in one of the areas in the house where MY phone would give me lousy signal/service, it now has 4 bars!!!!! This is a huge improvement.

I'm also recharging my bluetooth headset as it was sitting in my car for so long idle that it was drained of power....that'll be my next test.

i have found that if you call customer service and go through them they determine that it has a problem you can request a replacement in the store they will note it in your account and all you have to do is go to the corporate store, tell them it is noted and they will hand you a replacement. the lady at the store recomended this too she said if you bring it in the store they pretty much want to flash it but if you call them they will replace it with no hassle

    dehaven,
I was told the same thing when I went in today, but the last time I called CS (for an unrelated matter), I got the run around and ended up going into the store. So this time, I just decided to skip the hassle...go figure! LOL

Glad to hear that Verizon was able to resolve this issue for you Jodi, and I hope the 8300 keeps working well for you now. IMO the LG 8300 is one of Verizon's best phones.

When you say reprogram, do you mean that they hooked it up to a computer and reinstalled the software/firmware; AKA FLASHED it? This can work better than swaping out good hardware for questionable. Keep everyone advised, please.

Did you have any pictures or ring tones saved? If so did they remain after the FLASH?

    Best of Luck.

MobilePrincess....the # of bars is definitely improved, but the bluetooth keeps disconnecting after an incoming call, but at least it's not dropping during a call...yet....this is what happened the last time.

Jerro...no they didn't flash the phone. The CS tech typed some code into the phone (have no idea what) and then restarted the phone. All my saved pix and songs still remained, although I had to reprogram my personal settings on the phone.

It would have taken a while to "flash". However, I can't understand what would have removed your settings otherwise.

Doing *228, option #1 will re-program the phone. This option will also set all of the handsets settings back to default. This is what it sounds like the tech at the store did. I usually do this on my handsets as well before I sell them.

Jody, what bluetooth headset are you using with your 8300? Have you checked the headset using a different phone to rule out that the headset isn't the cause of the disconnects? You might also want to try a different headset with your phone. I've used the Motorola H500 with mine in the past without a problem, but I'm looking into getting another headset now.

Becasue I did not then notice that they had 2 of the same phones in the same house. Once I did notice that, the odds that it was a tower issue were diminished.

I do option 1 now and then just to clear any glitches, this option also loads any updates to VZW stuff like Get it Now and other options. Not that i use many. Of course optionn1 also loads the latest PRL just like option 2. If that is ALL that they did they could have saved her gas/time by having her do it at home.

I'm using a Plantronics bluetooth headset....I used the H500 previously and had problems as well as another headset (can't remember the brand at this moment) and had problems with that one too. The Plantronics was HIGHLY recommended for this phone.

Since having to bring it in, the VX8300 is holding better reception, but the bluetooth is still dropping. On Friday, I went to answer the phone via bluetooth and the caller's voice wouldn't transfer to the headset, but they could hear me when I answered them on the headset fine. Once I reconnected the headset to the phone, all was good. This phone has done this with all 3 headsets!

    What a pain!!!!

IMO, the bluetooth problems that you are experiencing with your 8300 aren't normal. I would call up Verizon's technical support dept. when you get a chance, and get them to put a note on your account with the bluetooth issue issue that you are having. Then you can go back to the Verizon store and have them swap your 8300 out with another one for you.
    Keep us posted. :)

I think I'm going to take the phone back in tomorrow and have them swap it out. If at that point it still sux, I'll use my upgrade to get a new phone. I spoke with someone today who works for VZW who I personally know and they couldn't believe all the problems I was having...in fact, their exact words were, "That's odd....the 8300 is one of our best phones."

I can always use the upgrade later if the swap-out doesn't work for me. I'll keep you all updated!

even with 2 months to go for an upgrade, I would ask for a replacement, in fact i'd call CS, ask for a supervisor and tell them all of the doccumented problems before going asking for a notation on the account to authorize a replacement. You can still up grade later and sell the new 8300 IF you can't get satisfation with the replacement.
    Best of luck.

Well....I went to VZW today again...they couldn't "replicate the problem" with 2 different BT headsets, so they said the problem is mine.

Now, I'm starting a log of every call I use my BT headset for. Already 2 calls have not worked properly with the headset. I'll be calling them in the next day or two (I want PLENTY of documentation!!) to give them "evidence" of the problem.....

Oh yes....I also asked about the "Annual Upgrade." Their response?
"You can upgrade your phone at any time, but you won't get a discount until the NE2."
I then told them that I have a "My Account" and received an email that stated I got an "Annual Upgrade" promotion with a new 2-year contract. The CS rep told me I was wrong....

    WHATEVER.....
