I never thought I would venture into the iDEN arena, but we are required to carry pagers at work and since pagers are getting phased out, our company is switching everyone over to Nextel. We are all going to get Motorola i465s....... As with any new gadget, I am looking forward to playing with it - the only downside I can think of is that I now have to carry two phones - one for personal and one for office use.
LOL. I'll have to admit - the chirp is still a lot of fun. That's why I keep a boost phone around for occasional use.
My employer switched paging vendors this spring, from US Mobility Wireless on 929 MHz to American Messaging on 462 MHz. The replacement looks and works the same as its predecessor COtech.
I am still debating on committing to Nextel. I have been testing the network for about a month. Coverage has been good overall, and better in a couple of key areas. Text and phone selection are my biggest gripes with Nextel, I do like the i465 though. It;s small for a Nextel phone, and the KB is nice for how small it is.
I live in the DC area, which is pretty much Nextel's home market. Their corporate office is 5 miles from my house, and I don't know anybody in this area that still has Nextel service.
Welcome to the "Chirp Club". All of us in manufacturing have to carry Nextel phones. Nextel is the only provider that makes a push to talk that is rated for the hazourdous locations in our plant. We mostly use it for the PTT feature and very rarely as a phone. They only make one model of this and it is a basic and archaic phone, however it has proven to be fantastic in emergency situations and I always carry it.
No chirping allowed, just too annoying... j/k OT, How do you like your BB? can the browser work on iDen or just WIFI? I tried the BB at a sprint store and it said it needed a WiFi connection.
