If Verizon takes away My Circle, will you leave or stay? If it is grandfathered in or you get a free ETF?
Verizon is going to have to grandfather those customers in. I think they'll lose too much if they don't. -Jay
If Verizon takes away My Circle then I will probably leave. I am not saying if they replace it wirgwith something similar I will leave. but I got 4 phone lines I am paying for that we don't use (old employee lines) that would save me money by going to Sprint.
I'd stay no matter what because Alltel & Verizon are the 2 top choices here. Though I think it's right that we should be grandfathered into the circle.
I have Verizon for my personal phone, but my office phones and data cards are with Alltel. We will stay with Verizon if the merger is approved because most of the phones that are on "My Circle" will be in the Verizon network. I do hope they let Alltel users Grandfather it in or mabee even offer some form of it after the Merger.
Without MyCircle, there's a good possibility I could leave for someone else. Not really sure what we're going to do just yet, but thinking seriously about switching. Thought about T-Mobile, but coverage here isn't good enough. Strongly considering AT&T because their network here is pretty good and just got 3G during the summer. Sprint would be the other option... But the Alltel contract isn't up until August 2009, so I have a while to think about if I'm going to stay or leave. Till then, I'll just wait and see.
I voted to leave not matter what. I have Verizon for work and that is a big enough headache and there isn't much incentive to want them personally without some perk from their expensive plans.
Mr. Obvious - Does Sprint have that good of coverage where you live? All suck over here with the exception of Alltel. So I will probably have to stick it out, just like I did with Cellular One until Alltel came along. Everytime my brother-in-law come down from Lawrence with his Sprint phone he cannot get a decent signal until he is in town at Newton, on 135, or in Wichita. If he strays his signal goes bye bye.
True...but...for example - both of us were at a lake two weeks ago (Marion Co. Res.)......he had no signal and I had 3 bars?
I work as an agent for alltel and My Circle will not be taken away from what I have been told. Alltel customers will still receive the same plans, rates and services that they currently have with alltel.
Hmm. Do you have any idea when this will take place? The buyout I mean. I was hoping to get a new phone before then but my contract ain't up for 6 months and I can upgrade Jan. 29.
Nobody yet knows when the deal is going to close. The two companies were aiming to have the deal finalized and closed "prior to the end of the year" but that's all that has been announced. Yesterday we got notice in one of the call centers to expect a short notice shift bid within the next couple of weeks in prep for the merger, so it is getting closer...........
For my line, I've already gone to Sprint, I'm just not a big fan of the big V, even if they would have grandfathered My Circle. For most of my family, the only choice is alltel or Verizon right now, so we'll have to wait and see who gets the divested network in Virginia-1 RSA and if Verizon keeps My Circle. We have 2 out of 4 lines out of contract now and another in April so we're avoiding upgrades so we'll have more bargaining power and be able to jump ship ETF-free under any circumstance if necessary.
I was just down in Hampton / Newport News 2 weeks ago and was driving all over the place down there. I even drove over the James river and over to 460? (We made a point to drive out to Virginia Diner for dinner). I had great service with the 3 AT&T phones we had with us. -Jay
But here AT&T sucks. There is like only towers in Wichita and one in Hutch. The rest are roaming off of GSM that Alltel put up. *snicker*
amen to that...att really sucks around here and from what I hear from those in Wichita is that the coverage is sketchy... Anyway...who needs an IPhone when you have the IPhone KILLER!
I've never been to Kansas, but I've been all over the east coast and have been very pleased with my coverage. Many times I'll have service when others don't. -Jay
Funny you mention that, I've heard great things about the Virginia Diner in Wakefield but have never had a chance to eat there. We were actually planning on stopping by when we take 460 to visit family for Thanksgiving. There's also a ton of great little peanut shops there where everything is a lot fresher than you can find in a Mr. Peanut can. But At&t has made some huge improvements in all of Southern Virginia over the past couple years and added somewhere around 239 towers in Virginia overall according to AT&T's advertising here. Highways US 460 and 58 now are covered very well with AT&T including many rural areas. The last couple times I've taken it all the way from Norfolk to Roanoke, I can remember stretches of new towers where Sprint and Alltel have given me no service for 15-20 miles, especially outside of Lynchburg, and I'm nearly 100% sure they're AT&T towers, or at least that AT&T is using them. If Verizon divests to AT&T where my parents live in SW Virginia which is now quite rural and still only CDMA, I'm going to recommend AT&T to them. Though even without divesture, AT&T is getting very close and only a couple towns away after adding several towers recently. And I wouldn't hesitate to switch over from Sprint if they give me a hard time upgrading pda phones on my cheapo SERO plan, which I hear they are because they're trying to phase them out. My using Sprint also requires alltel roaming in several places and who knows how the Sprint/Verizon roaming relationship will work down the road. AT&T is starting to look more and more attractive as a future provider.
Virginia Diner was an excellent stop. We decided to go there as it was ~5pm when we were ready to leave Newport News and I asked if anyone was up for a greasy spoon diner for dinner. My brother in law chimed in that he had seen Va Diner on Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives and he thought it was nearby. I looked on my GPS and it said it was only like 35 miles away so we went. That's a rough 35 miles through narrow 2 lane country roads though. Took us nearly an hour, but was totally worth it. Everything was really good, but I highly recommend the peanut pie for dessert. -Jay
