Well today I was in the Verizon store doing a phone exchange for my grandmother and I was talking to a guy about EVDO and my Mac. Well he was the manager of the Verizon store in Kingsport, TN and told me that he'd give me the USB tethering kit and software for free if I signed up for the service! Since EVDO is now fully launched in my area and this would allow me to use EVDO both on my Mac Mini and iBook via a USB port I decided to sign up. Right now I'm on my Mac Mini and I just did a speed test on the service and while it's not as fast as cable modem, it's pretty darn fast! Much faster than my dialup. Below is a picture of the speed test I just did.
So far I'm pretty impressed with the speeds I am getting on EVDO. From the coverage maps Verizon looks to have my area very well covered with EVDO. Sprint has EVDO in my area but the coverage is really spotty and doesn't even cover my house.
