I have two lines. One is the V3xx and the other is the CU515. My V3xx gets excellent reception. I don't have any issues with it. I live in the Seattle market. My CU515 seems to be having some issues. It seems to be randomly not picking up a 3G signal where in the same spot my V3xx picks up full 3G (full bars). If I power cycle the CU515, it will get full GPRS for a minute or so then go to no bars on 3G in certain areas. Again, in the same spot my V3xx is full 3G signal. The CU515 is obviously having issues with calls.

Here is what I've done so far and this is where I need your opinion as to whether its just the phone or both the phone and SIM. If I take my V3xx SIM and put it in the CU515, I will get full EDGE signal and it seems to stay there. If I take the CU515 SIM and put it in my V3xx, I get full signal but, it does not show any of the GPRS, EDGE or 3G indicators.

I believe there definitely is a problem with the phone but, with what I described above, do you also think there might be a problem with the SIM as well?

I think your problem is its an LG. I had an LG 3G phone for exactly 26 hours before I could not stand the poor RF and I took it back to the store.

I am tending to believe its the phone but, I am going to call AT&T tomorrow and see what they say. If anything I will have them send me a new SIM and replacement phone.

i own a cu515. the reception on it is quiet good actually, but it does seem to revert to EDGE if 3G is weak in an area.

but if your saying your v3xx is doing better than id say to call and do a warranty exchange, the cu515 should be comparable if not better than the v3xx in my experience.

I'd say "see you" to the CU515 and "Hello Moto" to the v3xx :D

...but seriously, LG has a bad rep for poor performance in GSM/UMTS networks, so to hear the CU515 has poor network perfornce doesn't suprise me. But the switching of SIM cards shouldn't matter  Unless one of them is really old (ie: SIM and not USIM) or maybe one SIM account has less privileges than the other, or something like that? I'd try ordering new SIM cards for both phones, and making sure both accounts have the same privileges, so they are on a level playing field and then see what happens.

Steve, before you get convinced that getting rid of your LG would solve all your problems, I would definitely change the SIM, to "level the playing field" as aptly stated by Radiotaiders.

The CU515 is not really that bad a phone, yes even though it is an LG ;), and besides if it was only the phone, the result of switching SIMS would not produce the results that you stated.

Sorry for my denseness but, when you say level the playing field....having the same privileges on both lines, what do you mean?

Its really weird. Some things point out a faulty phone while other things point out a faulty SIM. I'm going to call AT&T and have them look at stuff on their end and if needed, have them send me to a AT&T store later to replace the SIM.

Just mean if one SIM is post-paid and the other is pre-paid, it could also affect they way they connect (ie: pre-paid may not have full roaming abilities)....or if one account has some kind of "Gold" account that gives it a higher priority ... just things like that.

Oh. Okay, well yeah, same playing field I guess. They're both post-paid. They are both under the same account.....family talk.

I just called AT&T and they are first sending me to an AT&T store to replace the SIM and have me try that out for a few days. If that does not work, then I am to call warranty exchange to replace the phone.

Well, I went down to get a new SIM card but, it didn't seem to help. I went to a spot where I was noticing the problem and the problem was still there. The LG didn't really have a signal where my Moto was full service. So I sent for a warranty exchange. It should arrive in a few days. Hopefully, that fixes things. LOL

Well, replacing both the SIM and phone did not work. So I am exchanging it one more time for another CU515. If that doesn't work, AT&T said that I will then be able to request a different model.

I was on the phone with tech support today and she verified that both of the phones are registering on the same tower when I have my V3xx reading full service and the CU515 barely any. Her SIM card in my V3xx is verified to have full service. They also verified that the SIMs are updated, etc. The only thing left is the phone being bad. There wasn't any information on issues with the CU515 line. They said, I could've gotten a bad replacement. If the third CU515 does the same thing, I am going to try and exchange it for another V3xx as they work well for me.

Well, I'm done with the CU515s. LOL, I'm getting a platinum V3xx to replace it. My grey V3xx works great except for feedback in the earpiece so I'm getting my replaced as well. LOL I hope things are good from here on out.

Well, it wasn't the SIM. It was the LGs. I even tried the VU and had the same reception problems. So I got the Platinum V3xx to replace the CU515 and the reception is great.

Score one for Motorola... :) I still have a soft spot for Motorola, even though the newest phone of theirs I currently own is a "classic" V3.
