Do you have the drivers installed correctly on your comp so windows is seeing the phone as a Motorola USB modem?

What version of MPT are you using?

What carrier do you have for service?

When I connect my phone to the laptop it does say is charging but when I try to connect to Motorola Phone Tools it doesn't connect. I have verizon. All I want to do is to have ringtones on my phone. I have browse through some threads here and I tried to download P2K tools but I don't seem to follow it. I would really appreciate if you could help me. Please do reply back thank you.

How new is the phone? I seem to recall someone else mentioning in another thread that Verizon disabled MPT on their phones with their latest version of the firmware. From what I've heard there is no hack available yet to overcome this issue on the new firmware.

First off p2ktools is for GSM phones, so don't even try using it with your VZW CDMA Razr.

Secondly as mentioned and like I asked which firmware do you have. It does make a difference because as stated the 2 newest firmwares from VZW 01.19.05 & 01.19.07 have MPT locked competely. You WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE IT TO TRANSFER RING TONES, it will however still work for contacts, calender, and pics.

Now if you have one of the older firmwares a few seem edits need to be done to the phone even at that for use with MPT. Reason being is VZW locked it back then on the older firmwares but you were able to unlock it by doing the seems. Get back to us with the info we've asked and we should be able to point you in the right direction. Peace

How do I find out which firmware is it? I have a pink razr v3m bought a month ago. I know they have been in the market for a while so I don't know if is fairly new or not.

If it was bought a month ago its a safe bet that you have the newer firmware.

2 ways to find the firmware version. For doing it with the phone you should be able to go to Settings & tools and see a phone info section from there look for S/W.

If you can't find it there, turn the phone off and take the battery out. On the sticker in the battery compartment you should see a bunch of bar codes and numbers. When look at it on the right hand side you should see something like S/W ; NEWC......... ( the dots meaning a number) jot thatt number down and post it hear. Odds are it will be 01.19.07, 01.19.05, 01.09.02, or low and behold 01.05.0A Keep in mind I listed these from newest to oldest. Like when I bought my sons v3m 3 days after it was being sold it had the 01.05.0A on it. I know a few friends who have just bought v3m recently ( around the holidays, ie last month) threw VZW and they are coming with the 01.19.07 which will not work with MPT for getting ring tones on the phone.

Whith your current firmware NO MPT will not work for getting ring tones on it. You should however still be able to use it for contacts and pictures tho. Just go in and manually select v3mm or v3cm from the list of phone under setting.

Now as for getting ring tones on the phone your only option is to use PST or MSU along with p2kcommander to do it. Once you get p2kcommander working and reading the files on your phone put your ring tones in the /motorola/shared/ring tone folder. After you do that, still using p2kcommander go to the root directory of the phone ( ie /a) and look for the mytone.db file, once you find it select and then dleete it. After that unplug the phone cycle the power and you should now have you ring tones on the phone. One thing to keep in mind tho is every time you do it this way and delete the mytone.db file you'll have to go in and reset all your ring tones tho. Reason being is by deleting that file and cycling the power it re-indexes those file whihc is why you have to go in and reset all the tones again.

I'd be more then happy to but tonight is not very good for me. Actually I've got a personal matter that has to be resolved so I'm heading out of town. I can and will check in here as time permits tho.

I'll post a link that should be able to point you in the right direct. FYI being you are just starting with all this disregard my PST statement. Don't even try to mess with it. MSU ( Motorola Software updater) is way easier and puts your phone in the same mode as PST for use with p2kcommander or p2kseem for that matter. You'll notice on the link I post below which is taking you directly to the "How To's page" that on the left hand side there are link to info for specific phones also. So you may want to read threw some of that to.

it should be a law to stop the carriers from locking out features built into a phone by the manufacture.
