I'm very interested to have a nokia 7650, but seems like US is not marketting it yet, except for ebay. Is it possible to purchase outside US and have somebody unlock it and be able to use it through a Cingular SIM? [IMG]

I'd be wary. I'd have to double check to be sure, but I believe most (if not all) of the auctions I've seen for the 7650 on ebay state the phone will not work in the U.S.

Yes Bobolito is right, Our GSM is GSM and not EGSM. If they have it in Europe on GSM and not EGSM than it would be a world phone, therefore working across the globe [IMG].

I think the wait may be shorter for the 6650. Check it at

    http://www.nokia.com/6650_event/index.html

I understand that it has already passed regulatory certification in the EU and in Japan and that it is now being sent to operators for testing.

For a comparison of Nokia's series 60 phones (I have no clue why Nokia calls the 7650 and the 3650 its series 60 phones - it doesnt make sense to me) go to the website in the link below, where a 6 page pdf file comparing them will download.

For the real fans, I suggest

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,35452,1_36,00.html

where you will find tons of info on these two phones with linbks to documents for developers and programmers

The 6650 is 900/1800 MHz, so it won't work in the US.

BTW: The "series" number (series 20, 30, 60 etc) is more of an indication of the technology in the phone and doesn't have much to do with the model numbers. For example, series 20 phones include the 5100, 6100, 3300, 8200 phones (and others). Series 30 includes 7100, 6300, and others. You can tell the series 30 phones apart from the series 20 phones because the 30's have seven bars for the signal and battery strength and the 20's have four bars.

You are right tylerdurden. I keep forgetting that manufacturers somehow forget to make more of their phones available for use in the USA

The bands on the 7650 and 3650 are 900/1800/1900. I wonder when we will see the first quad-band GSM phone (800/900/1800/1900). Even though we don't have GSM on the 800Mhz band yet, if they annouce the phones now, by the time they make it to the market and begin selling GSM800 networks will be up and running.
