If I do to get to travel overseas I might try to get one from the source (at least the flip one) and hoefully they will be out by then.
These I-MATES are out of my league since I am a Garbologist and not a business man, I have to admit they are nice looking phones and would be worth a second look if I had the need for one. OT after having my hands on the SYNC I can see why I keep going back to a bar phone.
It's interesting that the four of us that posted on this thread are interested in 4 different types. Let's see dmapr likes the tablet, hf1khal wants the flip, josephd likes the slider & I like the bar.
Lets put it this way, it all depends on the device. So if it has a querty and it will be for email then it will be a bar (barring one comes out with a querty flip). Lats take teh Samsung d307, I think that was a nice phone and I did look at it (now VZW has the newer version of it) tried it but it was a no go. So teh only thing that came into play after that one was the BB 8700 then the pearl, now may be, a big may be, is the BB 8800 (which I will see on Tuesday night in NYC at the intro bash) but if it was not for my work email the choice would have been one of 2, the Blackjack or the 8525. So saying this, one can say there are form factors for each required use, for me, personal is the flip while work is, well lets put it this way, the Brick phones.
Here is a little more info on some of these new devices. Their are some awesome features on these if you have Vista. Thanks to luv2chill for bring it to my attention. http://www.channelinsider.com/article/IMate+Unveils+Windows+Mobile+6Vista+Sideshow+Phones/200919_1.aspx BTW, I like the flip.
I had an i-Jamin for a short stint. A good friend picked it up for me in Beirut when he went to see family. It was about half of what it would cost me here. Great phone, but not a Blackberry...which was necessary at the time.
From beirut, it is actualy more expensive there than the rest of the area unless you know some one in the business who can get it for you at close cost, at least that is what I used to do over there. I know some one who is actualy right now is on the plan to Dubai, and he is going to look around for me and talk to some one about them as well as get me more info.
That is how he could get it for a better price. For sure ping your friends and have them keep an eye for one.
Now you are making up words, me thinks you are hanging around Marketing VPs . Well, I will forgive that messed up thinking only because I loved your previous signature.... . Thanks for posting the details, really does have "awesome" features. Yes, you do have a good point. I am not much into QWERTY key boards, as matter of fact I can still type faster on the 6131 with T9 than I can with the Blackjack.
OK one thing that you need to remember, these are also touch screen and my bet is that they will also have the touch screen keyboard. And from the link given just above these look to be well ready to be an inbetween a phone and an iPhone.
Yes, I have, after I reconciled to the fact that it is not going to finish the word for me, I have gotten used to it. The one thing I don't like is that in a text messages it capitalizes letters as needed but if I choose the word and the first letter is not capitalized in the choice, then I have to go back and change it. Why don't you like it? I am not touching the "touch screen"....lol
I dislike that I have to use the FN key to scroll and find the correct word if I wish to use the T9 choices and it isn't the primary selection. I also don't like that in emails, it won't automatically capitalize the first letter after a period. It was automatic on my BB. Also, the T9 on my BB was extremly intuitive. Not to mention, I still haven't gotten used to the buttons of the BJ.
Coming off of years of BB use, I am a scroll wheel user, and you need to use the FN key to scroll right/left vice up/down.
I can type faster on 6131 than on Blackjack, too, but when I'm using my 6820 there's no comparison — the 6131 is left behind in the dust. I don't know whether it's an indication of the quality of the BJ keyboard or the lack thereof of my typing skills. Touchscreens are good when all you have to do is press a button slightly bigger than your finger. They are also good for browsing with a stylus. Typing on a touchscreen gets on my nerves (tried on Pam devices and an 8125).
Aah , you were talking about the scroll wheel, yes the horizontal is a pain, although never having been a BB user I only use it for verical scrolling, and the D- Pad otherwise.
