Well I was dressed for work and everything. I was in class and I get a call from my manager. I get out and call him, and he tells me that I don't have a job anymore. Our company ran into financial problems and decided to stop opperating as of yesterday. So now I'm jobless.
Sorry to hear that. Polish up that resume. There are a number of good books on resume and cover letter writing that you can find in any major bookstore. Probably a good investment, at any age or stage of career.
OK, spend a day mourning. Go out for beers with your ex-coworkers, if you can. I've always found that to be therapeutic. Then tomorrow, move on. Good luck!!
BTW, I bet I'm a lot older than you and I've had 3 jobs in the last 6 years. As the bumper sticker says, Sh*t Happens.
I'm sorry man, that is never an easy thing to deal with. My dad has had his own business for longer than i've been alive. A few weeks ago, he sold it off because business was dropping drastically, mostly because of the web. Now at 55 he has to look for a new job.
Eddie, I've been in your position more than once in my life. I can tell you that there ARE jobs out there. Don't listen to what the media says about the job market. There is always the Temp route. It can lead to something more permanent. For that matter, they can provide leads to places you won't find in the classifieds. Stay away from AppleOne, though. They are the worst temp agency around (at least in my experience). Even though it is hard to take when it happens, look at it as a new opportunity that awaits you. I've come to believe that things happen for a reason, even if it feels to the contrary. You are young, and you know a lot about cell phones. There are opportunities out there, just stay positive and things will work out. Good Luck!!
Had a couple of those jobs. IF it wasn't for the a**hole boss, the company's would have been able to keep a lot of good people.
Whoa, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm finishing up a 3-year Ausbildung (best translation for it is: apprenticeship/job training) to become a video editor at RTL Television in Germany. At the moment, I still have a job but the media and the postproduction sector is saturated here so I don't know yet if I'll be able to get a full-time job at RTL or at any production company for that matter. It all depends on how the market looks next summer. No matter what happens keep in mind that in the US, employers are more likely to hire you. Germany and Europe are very competitive especially since the hiring philosophy isn't as liberal/flexible as in the US. Good Luck....,
Thanks guys. I'm going to do the temporary thing with my university for a while. Next month I signed up to be a poll worker.... for the elections for governor. I'm even thinking of doing an intership with Disney in Florida for a few months. I'm going to be developing an INCREDIBLE essay and hopefully become an employee of a corporate store for a cell company, I'm done with authorized dealers.
Etorres777, let me point out that Cingular Wireless's sales, call center, technicians, and warehouse folk are all represented by the Communications Workers of America (some of sales, CS, and all warehouse folk by my local). I have worked 30 years without a union, and 8 with. I prefer with. I've posted a link to their contract in another thread. COtech at 52 (and steward, CWA 3806)
Sorry to hear about your Job loss, ET!!! I wish you well in your job-hunt. Let us know how it goes...
I fully concur on this culprit!!! I used them when I moved to Phoenix, & they were scoundrels!!! I was hired @ a Furniture Rent-To-Own joint, as a "Mgmt Trainee" by Title, but as soon as I started there, they put me to work as a Skip-Trace Collector for delinquent Customer Accounts- (Which seemed to be EVERYBODY). I was working 6 days a week, in a Shirt & Tie, NEVER in the Office, & driving around the East Valley in my Honda CRX Trying to Repo Furniture!!! What's that about???:lmao: Never again will I be the sucker!!!
I'm sorry to hear that! I see you got rid of your v360! I've been away from the boards for a little bit... did you decide you didn't like it anymore ????
UPDATE: Well yesterday I was called for an interview for today. I made it through the first interview and I will be called if I made it to the next interview by the end of the week. Then I went to GC Services (in-bound call center/customer care), took some tests, and I have an interview on Friday. So far so good.
That's a good sign Etorres, if they were not interested in you I do not think it would go that far. I hope it works out for you, like I said I have been in your shoes a few years back so I know what you are going through. Hang in buddy keep us posted
Well more bad news... I was offered a job with Verizon Wireless for customer service at a corporate store, four weeks paid training and expenses. PROBLEM I have school and can't miss that much so they're keeping my application on file. I apply at a inbound call center, I can't take the job once again because training is three weeks long, Monday through Friday from 8-5 (during school), so I'm told to come back when I have a long break to do training. I guess I'm going to have to flip burgers for the first time in my life...
Sorry to hear that. I would think any big company would want to work with someone they like/want to hire who is trying to further their education.
No you don't. Quit thinking like that. (take it from drunk woman) You are still young - you will find something. It may even take 10 years - but the entire time you need to believe that you are WORTH holding a good job - because you are. And eventually you will find *the* job. And you will be satisfied & you will KNOW it is where you belong. You have every right to feel depressed now - I don't want to deny you that if it's how you feel - but you're young, still - you will come into the right position, no matter how long it takes. BTW - I grad from college in '95, went back to grad school in '03 - and on Monday, I start the dream job that I never knew I wanted before it fell in my lap. You will be that lucky, because you want it. Have a great weekend. And if I didn't make sense, please forgive my drunken rambling....
