I haven't had time in the past 2 months to get around to modding my phone.

Earlier this week, the OTA upgrade was rolled out by Verizon, a staggered week rollout. I was going to download the file & install it myself today, but when I took my phone out of sleep mode, the notification was there that a system update is available!

Woo-hoo! So I can't use my phone for the next 1/2 hour or so. And I'll have to reset my settings from the defaults.

BUT I'll have OS2.1!!! Of course, I know that froyo (2.2) is out, but I'll get to install some apps that didn't run on 1.5. YEAH!

And, after next week, I'll have some time to do a little modding if necessary.

I'm a WA phone geek. proud of it!

Oh yeah- my husband's ERIS hasn't received the upgrade yet.

Enjoy 2.1. As far as I know, 2.2 (FroYo) is not out, that is, it's not on any shipping phones or official updates. It is being demo'ed and described at this week's Google I/O conference.

You have to respect Google's desire and ability to improve the platform. They are walking a fine line between aggressive improvements and a fractured and confused marketplace. I happen to like change, so I'll take the improvements.

The OTA has apparently exploited some physical problem with my phone. I can't use it as an actual phone more than once a day without rebooting. It won't connect to my bluetooth in my car. I'm frustrated as hell.

I've rebooted, done a battery pull, did a factory reset (in which I forgot to backup my password program for business and personal sites/software). All to no avail. I called the local Verizon store and was told it is most likely a phone & not a software program. My new ERIS ships tomorrow to arrive on Friday. The "new" phones are actually devices that had to be reworked as they didn't pass factory testing prior to shipping. So they haven't been in anyone's hands.

My husband's phone is doing great since the upgrade.

Being in the store & actually seeing/holding an Incredible in person...I'm hoping the "new" ERIS has the same problem so maybe I can upgrade to it...

Sorry to hear of your problems with your Eris. :(

Does VZ/HTC offer the upgrade as a download to install through your computer? I never like the OTA upgrades they seem to be much more problematic. Plus if the fails in some way during the OTA update it usually ends up as a brick. :(

The OTA worked fine. Apparently there is a hidden hardware problem on some of the Eri' that is latent until the update.
We'll see what happens with the next one. If there are too many issues, I'll {complain a bunch} talk with the supervisor & maybe be upgraded to an Incredible for a few extra dollars...

Well good luck with everything. :) I still don't like major OTA updates. :D

Got my new phone this afternoon. Just sitting down to play with it.

First - it wasn't "new" - had a smaller white box, just the smarts of the phone in the bubble wrap, with the plastic protectors on all the shiny parts. It didn't come with a new SD card, charger, battery or back cover.

It came with a sticker in the battery compartment that reads "SEC 05/07/2010" and a subscript "1"

It came with HBOOT 1.47 and 1.5 OS.

So I'm doing the 2.1 OTA and going to see if the bug is fixed. Going to see if the battery life is better. And in a couple weeks, during my tonsillectomy recovery, I'll have plenty of free time to do a little rooting around.
