I can data roam on Verizon Wireless here in Delaware. Woo! That's cool. I couldn't get the media player to work, but I can access the web on 1x. Pretty neat. Using a V3m Red.
The latest PRL (20226) update enabled VZW 1x data roaming for all those with a phone capable of data roaming.
I have been able to data roam on vzw 1x for quite some time now as well. My room mates Fusic is able to data roam on vzw with 20225 with no problem. As I understand, the new PRL actually had nothing to do with data roaming, but just so happened to be released near the same day as the data roaming with vzw began
I was able to data roam on 10036 and 10037. I'm assuming it was just a coincidence that the data roaming agreement kicked in just as the new PRL's were being released but really had nothing to do with each other?
This is a good discussion about roaming. Before I signed up with Sprint (3 weeks ago) I went into Alltel they were claiming that Alltel PDA's can roam EVDO on Sprint's network. You'd think that this would also be reverse, Sprint to roam on Alltel's EVDO. I was in Eau Claire WI where Alltel has EVDO and Sprint has 1x. No luck, would only roam on 1x. What's up with that or is the Sprint/Alltel EVDO deal just myth.
Good question. Seems like Alltel has the better end of the bargain for sure. Sprint prefers Verizon to Alltel in South Carolina, which is really dumb. Both suck, but Alltel is at least 850 and a little bit better in rural areas.
your right.........i was in Virginia and ALLTEL sucked but Verizon was great..........however i couldnt roam on VZW because it was below ALLTEL on the PRL..........my cousing had VZW and i was kinda jealous... your right..........ALLTEL does seem to have the better end of the deal..........although i've heard that ALLTEL def does allow EVDO roaming for Sprint customers on its network...........let me look into it and post back to give a positive answer
Yeah I can data roam here in Tennessee. When I set my phone to roam, I roam onto Verizon's network. I can use any data feature, except Sprint's Music Store. It's pretty cool.
Huh? I couldn't roam on Alltel EVDO with 20224 but can with 20225/6 (s720 laptop card). There is a description on Sprint PRL update that 20225 specifically allows data roaming on Alltel EVDO.
That's odd because I don't think data roaming has anything to do with the PRL. It's whether or not the carrier allows it and whether your phone is capable of it. I know someone using an ancient (PRL 10034 I think) and it works on data. Maybe the EV-DO devices are different?
Data roaming is controlled by the PRL. If you dont have the right PRL or a phone that cannot data roam then you are stuck.
The PRL does not affect data roaming if you are roaming on a 1X network. However if you want to roam onto an EVDO network, there are specific entries in the PRL to allow this. For example, to roam on Alltel 244 EVDO in Michigan, here is the PRL entry: Priority 2 00244 [D] RM Alltel Communications EV-DO CLR/73A CLR/157A PCS/175A CLR/199A CLR/201A CLR/466B CLR/468B CLR/510B CLR/589B CLR/594B PCS/775E CMA064B Grand Rapids, MI CMA078B Lansing, MI CMA094B Saginaw, MI CMA132B Kalamazoo, MI CMA177B Battle Creek, MI CMA181B Muskegon, MI CMA193B Benton Harbor, MI CMA207B Jackson, MI CMA472B Michigan 1 - Gogebic CMA473B Michigan 2 - Alger CMA474B Michigan 3 - Emmet CMA475B Michigan 4 - Cheboygan CMA476B Michigan 5 - Manistee CMA477B Michigan 6 - Roscommon CMA478B Michigan 7 - Newaygo CMA479B Michigan 8 - Allegan CMA480B Michigan 9 - Cass
people over at the official Sprint forums seem the agree that EV-DO roaming is controlled by the PRL as well.............try and call in to see if you have the latest PRL.............if not.............update and try again
