    Yes! Yes !! Yes!!!

Go to this link and download the dude to your phone.

    http://www.sprintpcsrocks.com/sprintpcsrocks/aim.html

Once you run it, it gives you a choice to logon to either of the services AOL, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ (messengers) and I tried MSN and Yahoo..it works.

I would like to believe your reasons for posting are to pass on whatever valuable information you may have; not just to see who is going to reply because you have posted! [IMG]

I know that I should not be expecting replies, all I was expecting was feedbacks from other people.

Did you leave all the server and crap as it was?

When it asks for your email is it really asking for your email or your screenname?

I downloaded AIM from the site above and I'm having two problems with it:
    1) I run the app, it connects to the web but takes at least 10 minutes to connect to AIM , sign in and retrieve my buddy list.
2)Once it finally does all that crap and I see my buddy list, I can't select a buddy to IM. My left hotkey says "menu" (which works) and my right hotkey says "select". When I highlight my buddy and press "select", absolutely nothing happens. What's up with that?

Thanks for the info but I just get an error message when I enter my phone # and submit..Tells me one of the message recipients is not a member of this service....I don't understand.I'm a member of wireless advisor what am I doing wrong??Also, once they send you the download please be so kind as to describe exactly how you activated it on your phone.

This is really good news as I thought I was going to have to be without my AOL E MAils.....thanks again,Dave

Okie Guys Here are the answers to all your questions:

If you can't not download the app:
    -----------------------------------
Yes there might be a case like that. Because just a few days back I was trying to send a text messgae to my phone fromt the SprintPCS web site, it said that this person does not subscribe to this service. And I tried my friend's number and the same thing. I posted it in this forum but no body gave a damn. I had zero replies so I thought may be other people's working. Then after a few days it started working. This app's site uses Sprint's website to send the download link, and if you cant do it right now then may be either wait for a few days or get the app Midlet from their website and mail the link to yourself. I mean there are otherways to get an app to your phone search the other threads or start a new one and I will answer.

Once you have downloaded the App:
    ----------------------------------------------
Run it and once running go the service which u want to use. For example if you use MSN then go and click on it, first of all on the top enable it then type in the email address(becoz MSN supports hotmail and msn accounts both) and your password and press ok. Do the similar for other services..where it says username type the username, for ICQ type the ICQ number and the password. Once you have done all this, press 'Login' now it does take a hell lot of time to connect but keep in mind that its still in Beta phase..they must be working on to improve the delays. I guess its trying to knock through the SprintPCS gateways thats why its taking time. Once the contracts between the companies and the Sprint has been settled down it should not take that long.

    When you are connected:
    -------------------------------
Select one of the online buddies and press OK..or the right soft key (I forgot which one worked) but then dont expect the results immediately wait for a while and then the chat screen comes where you can type a message and send it and at the same time see your buddy's message. If you want to see instant results then call and ask your buddy to send u a message. I have two MSN ids so on my computer I logged in with one id and on my handset I logged in with other and chatted for 5 minutes. Once the chat thing starts, then the messages dont take any time to flash at each other's site.

Hope this explains in "SHORT" [IMG]

So do you just put in your AIM sn or do you have to use some sort of email address? It says email address but i don't see why.

I was with a friend that tried this; we went to the mall, then picked up something to eat, and in all that time, still hadn't got connected.

By the time we remembered the phone, we had forgotten what we were trying to do in the first place! [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

At we speak, I just tried it on Sanyo 5300. It took me less than a minute to log in. But I tried last night and took me along time. So it depends how busy is the server... I like it when someone send you a message, it has a pop up which actually pops up in less than 3 seconds..

I am able to connect but then it takes like 10 min "logging in" and then disconnects. I guess it must be something with the servers around here.

I think its buddies. But it says the same in Yahoo and MSN where they dont have buddies they have contacts and friends. But the basic programming behind everything is same so I guess they dint bother to change what they call it. But in a broader sense it means the contact list or the friends in ur list. And I think since the server is in a beta phase, and its not a standard SprintPCS service or a service provided by MSN/AOL..its a third party utility. So basically what I could figure out is that the reason for long time is the three tier process. Generally when you connect from ur PC, its direct 2 tier thing..between your machine and the AOL/MSN server. But in this case first you are connected to the server of the makers of this utility and then that server connects to your respective messenger service so this process takes time, since most of these guys talk encrypted. And encryption also inludes the info about the sender and receiver, and if that is changed the data is not accepted. So the middle tier or the server of this utility has to first decrypt the message from you then encrypt it in a form acceptable to the MSN/AOL server and send it. So the process takes time. This is my opinion only, I have no grounds to prove it or back this informatin.

Is all this for instant messaging, or being able to view email? If not email, is there a way I can view my MSN email?

Those of you who have it working on MSN and AOL... What server and port settings do you have? I'm constantly getting "Disconnected from server" but never really connecting at all.

Hmmm, that's what I'm set for and it keeps bouncing me... Maybe it just doesn't work on a 4900... Anyone get it to work on a 4900?

I've downloaded the app (very cool I might add), and I connected and see my list. Now for the stupid question: How do I send a message? Menu and Select are my only options - Select does nothing, and Menu just brings up "add/remove contact", "canned messages" etc... I even tried to send a canned message, and wasn't able to send - help!

I am having the same problems. I finally got everything to load and seen my buddly list but I can't find a way to send a message. I also have the 4900, so if anyone has any suggestions please post them up.

Also dealing with the problem of it taking forever to load the ab list, I went ahead and made a new screenname and just but the main people I talk to on it. It still takes awhile to load but it doesn't take as long as it was when it was trying to load by entire list of 199 people.

I have given up on trying to make this thing work. This was orignally posted for the 5300 phone; yet taking into account that the 5300 is a vision phone, I dont see why it wouldnt work for all the vision phones. I have the 4900 and this app still takes forever to do anything. I have finally decided to just wait for AOL and everyone else to get their collective acts together. [IMG]

OK WHOA WHOA... Are yall tellin me that the Sanyo 5300 CAN NOT handle AIM on its own? One of things I love about my TP5250 is that I can just go to "WIRELESS WEB>MESSAGING>AIM>SIGN ON" and go to AIM... Does it not work the same way with the 5300?? This should be cleared up because this could cause confusion for alot of new people.

Essentially this phone is almost useless to me without the AIM functionality, its 1/2 of what I use my TP5250 for besides looking up movie times and of course... talking.
