It looks like the Cayman Islands and the Yucatan peninsula are next before the Mexico/Texas Gulf area..Scary stuff.
I feel bad for the areas that were hit and the areas that are going to be hit. I do, however, am glad that it is not coming towards southwest Florida. If a Cat. 4 or 5 hit my city, our house would be gone due to the fact that our windows and house can only withstand winds up to 139 mph and Wilma was extremely close to this.
It's looking like it will go into Mexico, missing southern Texas altogether, but you never know with these things. This is one nasty, dangerous storm.
I work at State Farm's customer response center. I take claim information and forward it to the claims department.
Eddie, it looks like you won't have to worry about this storm affecting your customers in South Texas. Unfortunately Mexico will get slammed twice. This thing hit Category 5 status before slamming into the Yucatan peninsula. Probably the last thing Mexico needs.
I saw, feel bad for Mexico though. This thing grew from a four to a five, like you said, right before it hit the peninsula. I know one a hurricane hits land, it becomes weaker, but if it gets back into that little bay above the peninsula, can it regain strength?
Because it is so deep in the Bay of Campeche, there is too much land around it to allow it to restrengthen much. The Weather Channel reported that it did strengthen a little bit but not back to Cat. 2/3/4/or 5 status. Mexico has and will continue to be hammered by this storm.
This storm is something else. Dean increased in strength, while in the Bay of Campeche, to a Category 2 storm before slamming back into Mexico again...Unreal... We're lucky this didn't hit the U.S. Gulf Coast...
Agreed. I am glad that it especially didn't hit here in SW Florida. A storm as strong as Dean was will pretty much destroy most major buildings here and homes (including mine) since ours is rated to withstand up to a strong 3/weak 4.
I don't even want to imagine how bad this would have been if it hit ANYWHERE along the US Gulf Coast or the East Coast. This was one powerful puppy that would have leveled whatever unfortunate place it hit. It's a miracle there wasn't more catastrophic damage in Mexico. It hit fairly rural areas, so it didn't destroy Mexico like it could had it hit a heavily populated area.
