HTC has rebranded its website and will also start marketing its own PocketPCs directly through their site and the usual retail/provider channels. The specs sheet lists the new HTC TyTN as being quadband GSM and triband UMTS (UMTS 850/1900 for North America and UMTS 2100 for the rest of the world). The specs sheet is available here: http://europe.htc.com/products/tytn.php Spec sheets: Front: http://europe.htc.com/pdf/products/1766_TyTN_PRODSHT_FRNT.PDF Page 1: http://europe.htc.com/pdf/products/1766_TyTN_LFLT_INN.PDF Detailed Specs: Page 2: http://europe.htc.com/pdf/products/1766_TyTN_LFLT_OUT.PDF The TyTN will be released in Europe at the end of July. There are no details yet on when it'll be released in the US or whether T-Mobile and Cingular will pick it up later this year. Cingular is the most likely candidate since their UMTS network is already up and running. There's a lively discussion going on over at HoFo about this already: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=935001
(Quick note on the thread title - shouldn't that read "all CARRIER-BRANDED PPCs"?) So, that's what? A SEPT-band phone? Yow. I can only imagine how much power that radio requires.
5 bands, 7 modes - is that a better statement? 850/900/1800/1900/2100 are th bands, but the flavors of modes do add up to 7.
Nope, apparently HTC is rebranding the Q-tek product line to HTC so they will have their own name on a PPC series from now on. http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=7373614&postcount=10
Radios. One radio for GSM/GPRS and a second radio for UMTS. HTC will most likely use low voltage chipsets to optimize the battery life.
This sounds like a great phone! I can't wait till it comes to the US. Will probably take forever. I'm still waiting for the LG CU500 to come out.
For those of you interested in the TyTN, here are 2 recent reviews. I'm a Palm holdout, myself, but if I wanted a do-everything device, this might be the one. One thing to note is that, according to The Reg, it only has a microSD slot for memory expansion. I couldn't find these any larger than 1 Gbyte when ordering for my phone. Seems a bit limiting for a real computer, but the capacities will surely go up on these. Mobility Today, July 12 The Register, July 31. Have fun!
The TyTN is already out. Their are a few user over at HoFo that have it ,and are posting some nice reviews about it. Also SanDisk just anounced a 2GB microSD card. I have been eying this sweet device as of late. If things with Sprint (6700 related) and my 6700 can't get resolved by early next year. I may just head to Cingular anf get a TyTN.
Dang! You're right. Sandisk announced this today and it's apparently available in Verizon stores and on the Verizon website. I ordered a 1 GB microSD from PC Connection yesterday, after checking in my local MicroCenter and a few online stores. I hate it when that happens! :O, Oh well...
The TyTN has been picked up as the VPA Compact III by Vodafone Germany and they're selling it for €370 Euros with a 2-year contract (€900 for just the handset). Expansys.de has it for €780 (Euros) which is still a whopping price. However that price isn't uncommon for Europe as all new HTC PocketPCs start in that range when they are released. http://www.vodafoneshop.de/shop/det...99990916027028850418755&Artikel_Daten_ID=3421 http://www.expansys.de/product.asp?code=138234
