I'm practically giddy, especially since I decided to hold off on the Wing and wait for the next hot handheld. HTC Kaiser coming to T-Mobile USA? | The Boy Genius Report We can hope. Or I can, at least. Anyone else jazzed at the prospect?
This looks like it will be one of T-Mobiles best smart phones to date. I found a cool review of the HTC Kaiser on "You Tube" this morning, that was done by mymobile911.com. YouTube - HTC Kaiser Hands-on review According to the review this will be the replacement for AT&T's 8525. I hope T-Mobile gets this one first. T-Mobile will have the best price plan with this handset as well with their new "Total Internet Add-on" price of $19.99.
Methinks they'll need to rename it, though. "Kaiser" may not [ahem....pun fully intended] ring so well in the US market.
Well I know they are selling it as the MDA Vario III in europe, but I'd say they'll come up with something different here, after all there are no MDA Vario II's or I's here in the states... Plus who here knows that Kaiser means emperor.
Yes, funny name for a Taiwanese company to give to a phone. I guess it was just a development name, though. Aren't they also calling it the TyTN II? "Kaiser" may simply mean "emperor", but as Hickory Shampoo implied, to American ears it conjures up the enemy in WWI, Kaiser Wilhelm II. SW
I am a little surprised that the name 'Kaiser' should be a point of contention in America. The title probably has the same connotations in the UK as it does in the U.S., but I wouldn't have thought that it would have caused much of a stir here. Interestingly 'Kaiser' derives from 'Ceasar'; it was used by the Holy Roman Emperors who saw their rule as a continuation of the Roman Empire and thus used a title derived from Ceasar to reflect that. The Austro-Hungarian Emperors also used the title Kaiser, their dynasty, the Habspurgs, having also provided all the Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire since 1440.
Leave it to you to come up with a paragraph explaining the name, my dear friend I bow to you as always.
