New owner here again. Folks are so helpful that I'm going to continue begging for assistance. I'd like to import some ordinary word processor (Word Perfect) text to my TREO 650 for reference when I'm not near my computer. The files are fairly large (some about 200K) but the material could be cut a bit. The files can easily be converted to various kinds of .TXT (ANSI Windows, DOS, etc.), .RTF, WORD, etc., if necessary, but not to the Palm OS format. All I want to be able to do is read them in a searchable file, to find phone numbers for example (they aren't in a contact or Outlook file, just text, and I don't want to retype everything). When I try to send them by hot-sync or email, they won't load onto the main handheld, and aren't visible or usable if I download them to the expansion card. I get a message that they aren't in a recognized format. I was able to send a small spreadsheet file to my Palm MEMOS program, which is acceptable (but no longer in spreadsheet format), but haven't been able to repeat the process with word processor files, even after importing them to a spreadsheet. I'd be happy to buy a simple conversion program if that's what it takes. Surely there is a simple way to move text files to the 650 without retyping everything. Anyone know what it is? Thanks in advance, Bill Reid
im thinking you're gonna need a program DL'd to the treo that can open those particular files. but obviously NO pro at these treo's..lol
Problem solved. Simply. As everyone else already knows, the Documents-to-Go suite is bundled with the TREO (in my case, the Verizon version). It's not pre-installed, but is on a CD with lots of other programs. Gotta remember to read the instructions for this stuff. For those contemplating purchase, or who are still dumbfounded by the gee-whiz factor and can't get the "whiz" part to work, the included CD has Documents-to-Go (which easily imports MS WORD, EXCEL, and POWER POINT files from a PC and allows viewing and editing) and the programs needed for easy email access (through Outlook and other clients, without the unwieldy webmail process), wireless synch, network access, media viewing, and other things 'way too cool for me to get involved with. Oh yeah, there are a couple of games and a really crappy solitaire. Now I can fill up all that spare time I have waiting for patients and clients. Of course, text that's not in WORD has to be converted to WORD on the exporting PC, but that's not a problem. It only took me one evening to install everything I wanted and get it working, not counting putting Documents-to-Go on a second PC. That's a joke. This gadget business is a black hole for time. At least I got to watch Law and Order out of the corner of my eye. No more questions for now, but thanks for the help in the past. Bill Reid
