I heard that there's a way to update the s/w on your Verizon phone. My question is:

1.) how do you find out there's an update for it

2.) Is there ANYWAY for you to do it yourself? I heard the only way besides hacking is going to a verizon store.

Other than having the firmware, equipment and software the only way to update the firmware is to take your phone to a verizon store and have them do it.
At least if they fry your phone in the process they will replace it.

SO the only way I can find out about these updates are to go to a verizon store?

WELL lucky for me there's one under 10mins from my house.

If I call will they tell me?

What is wrong with your phone that you want to update the firmware? If there are no issues to be addressed with a firmware update then its best to leave it alone.

You're not talking about the PRL (Roaming list) are you? That can be done by dialing *228 chose option 2.

Well, Verizon tells you to do an update every 30 days, and you do so by dialing *228

It is to update the roaming partner list & not a software update for the phone.

In dealing with Verizon tech spt on an issue I was informed that the Razrs I purchased in November should have been flashed with the latest software version that came out in October.

I was told that I had to take it to a Verizon Store that is "capable" of flashing phones. Apparently not all stores have the equipment needed.

FYI: If you have a Razr V3M the proper S/W version is: NEWC_01.09.02 (at least according to Tech Spt on 1-8-07).

Technical support should be able to tell you what the latest S/W is for any given phone and then you have to determine where and how best to get your phone flashed.

If you need to find locations that have this ability, you can go to My Account on the phone. Then select Find Store. After that, you can enter a ZIP code or a city/state. Stores with a plug symbol have updates available.
