hi everyone.. i need some help for my project.. can anyone tell me is it possible for us to detect the cell ID of the sender when they send sms?? if it is possible..how to implement it? thanks
Not that I know of. The network may know, but that information is not transmitted to your handset. There are other location based services you can run on smartphones that you may be interested in though. I know I used to have TomTom GPS software running on my phone, and it would show the location of my other TomTom "buddies" on my GPS map screen. I think Google also has a similar service.
thanks Jay2TheRescue the cell ID can't attach to sms message automatically as you said. But can i send my cell ID info. using sms to another cell phone?if yes , how ? and can any cell phone do that? thanks again..
It can be done automatically, if you write a custom application for Win Mobile or Android phones. To do it manually you'd need a phone that can be put into field test mode, look up your cell ID, then insert that into a text message. It can be quite complicated depending on the phone you have.
You can put your phone into test mode and get the cell id, which sites your in hand off with and rssi values. Good way to find out just how good your reception is. That little signal strength indicator on your phone lies Go to Wilson Electronics > support >test mode instruction for instructions on various phones.
Not really. All this tells you is what cell site you're using, not the caller on the other end. You already know where you are.
I put my Samsung SGH-A847 into test mode and I could not understand any part of what it was telling me! If I could find the cell id, how would I then find where it was located?
