How to deactivate phone or remove the phone number

    My friend let me have his motorola v710 because he switched to cingular and i wanted a new phone. so i went to the verizon store to get my number from my old phone onto the motorola v710. they told me they couldnt do it because the phone is still in service, so does anybody have any idea how to deactivate the phone or remove the phone number?

    Your friend needs to call Verizon and either cancel the account that phone is attached to, or assign the account to you. This prevents someone from stealing a phone and signing it up in their own name.

    oh thanks, but if my friend owes money on that account, can he still deactivate the phone from the account?

    He can deactivate the phone, but they won't activate it for anyone until the balance is paid. Some friend!
