Please any advise how to use my blackberry connected to my wireless network? I have recently purchased the blackberry 8120. I have wireless connection at home. I have the following questions: 1)why am I unable from my blackberry to connect to my wireless network. It asks me for the wep key. I do not know how to find it. Additionally, is it normal that my wireless network icon (on my blackberry)shows a yellow lock? 2)Do I have to pay extra in order to browse the internet (I do not mean to create an e mail account...only to browse). Please answer to my both questions. Thank you so much
The WEP key your phone is asking for is the password to your wireless network. Hopefully you should know what the password is to your Wi-Fi network. The lock you're seeing on the wireless network icon on the BB is just telling you that your network is secured with a password. As far as your second question goes, are you paying for a Blackberry data plan with your carrier? If you are, then you can access the internet on your phone without using your Wi-Fi network. If you are not paying for a BB data plan, then (depending on your carrier) you will either have no access at all or you will incur per-use data charges, which could add up quickly.
With the Blackberry 8120 you can set the browser to wifi only in which case if you are not signed up with the BIS service you can browse all you want for free. I have a coworker that does it all the time. I believe while in your browser you go the menu and get into the options then set the connection to WIFI, then as long as you know your WEP Key you should be able to connect. I know with my dash if I turn on the wifi feature I connect to my neighbors wifi service all the time until they see I am on it and reset it...lol it's fun sometimes just to mess with them. But you are not necessarily required to have the data plan to get online, if you call customer care some people will tell you that you have to have it but not necessarily and tmobile currently has no way to prorate data so if you can connect you will not get billed, the only time we bill by the MB or KB in some cases is for international roaming.
