A few weeks ago I was reading an article that decried Samsung's bloatware as hogging memory unnecessarily. I thought to myself -- "Wait a minute. That's hardly fair without also divulging just how much space is eaten by the Android OS. I made a preliminary search but couldn't find the answer. Today, I finally did. The current version ("M") takes up approx +/-4GB. So on a 16GB device, Samsung takes another 4GB for it's TouchWiz system and other non-removeable apps. Now, keep in mind that the following link is was written about 2 years ago, but the graphic is very interesting. Apple has the smallest OS, which leaves more space for the user. Beyond that, all Android mgfrs seem to have various add-ons. Samsung is indeed the worst. http://www.zdnet.com/article/how-much-free-storage-space-does-your-smartphone-really-have/ (And no, horsefly (viewfly), I ain't cherry-picking.)
Oh. This is not a shocker to me. The Nexus line takes up the least amount of storage (IMO). I don't complain about manufacturer bloat too much. It's the carrier pieces of shhhhh that is the worst. The lower end the phone, the worst it seems. My 32GB Note5 has about 23GB of available space. Not complaining because the Note has a lot of Samsung stuff, and that is to be expected. I forget how much space I have on my 6P, but is is definitely more than the Samsung, which makes sense because there is only Google stuff on it. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Just booted up my Nexus 6P with the Android N beta. I have 25.01 GB for use out of 32 GB. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
@QLR: So basically, the new "N" beta takes up 8GB all by its little lonesome. Hopefully, that will start forcing the hardware mfgrs to make 64GB the base internal.
Almost 7GB for the Nexus 6P. There is a difference between 7 and 8 And the Note5 Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
@QLR: Somehow I misunderstood your prior post. Glad to see the package is so small. Maybe with the, the makers can continue to use the 32GB without impacting the user experience too severely.
