What a difference a few days can make. It seems that the trend is most people have gone towards the big 2, Verizon and Cingular. They are winning the votes by a huge margin.

Two years ago was 2004...let's see...I think I had Sprint then. Then I had Cingular. They sucked so I went with AT&T. Stayed with them a bit but switched to T-Mobile. Then went to Cingular after I split up with my wife. Moved to AZ and back to Sprint. Full circle baby!

Since I have moved here I have convinced 2 Cingular people and 1 Verizon person to switch to Sprint. :)

That doesn't suprise me because we've hardly ever had any sprint users on this forum to begin with. :D

If their coverage were better around here it would be a choice since I can get a 21% discount with them.

I agree. Now I know that there are more than 15 people that have switched on WA in the last four years. Come on guys, post for the polls.

Pressure them to not have a craptastic upgrade program and I'd seriously consider them. Otherwise, never. I'd use Verizon and T-Mobile beforehand.

Re: How Many WA's have switched?

Actually I did more switching than it was possible to mark on the poll.
    1. My original Verizon no. is my now Cingular no.
    2. My original T-Mobile no. is my now Verizon no.
    3. My original Cingular no. is my soon to be eliminated T-Mobile no.
    4. I have a brand new Cingular Go-Phone.
All done within the last 2 yrs.
    Don't ask :D

I see more WA'ers are posting since yesterday. FYI, if you click on the number of votes, you can see who and how they voted. The results are public.

If I had to do this over again, I probably should have said, 'in the last year'.

Thanks again and keep them coming.

Ha that kind of sounds like my past two years. I've had four number changes, so pretty much a new number every six months.

I know there are many more users that have switched out there that have not voted. I hope all do.

Andy84094, I've only ever considered you a Verizon guy...never knew you switched over in the last 2 years. Thanks for the info

I know it is impossible to vote when you have mulitple carriers, but if you have a main carrier (like Andy=Vz, not Cing) vote for that one. The comments in your posts help explain the history or reason for multiple's

When we first got a phone (OMG - in 1996!) we were with USCellular. We stayed with them up until I went with Verizon in 2003. I jumped ship to Cingular last month - this is the first time I've got to keep my number, I believe.

I'm a new WA this month, but my family and I have switched quite a bit since first starting to own cell phones. In the time period of the past two years we switched to Nextel -- looking for a way to keep an elderly member of the family in touch more easily. We chose a very, very simple phone mostly for that reason -- several of us have the i205 now. I'm pretty unhappy with this, partly because the Nextel quality of service is not what I've gotten with other carriers, partly because I find the i205 vibrate only is hard to notice and the volume of the ringtones seems to be either "TRULY OBNOXIOUS" or "INAUDIBLE"

Anyway, I'm looking to switch, mostly because the devices available from Nextel are so very limited.

I guess with the merger, I should choose "Switched to Sprint" and that's probably the direction I am going to go, anyway!

I just switched to Alltel U Prepaid. I previously had a Cingular Go Phone. I switched because of the better coverage area and cheaper per min. rate with Alltel. My husband and I and our 2 son's usually go on an annual 2 to 3 week vacation ( mostly out west ) and I have to travel for my job 3 time's per year, so good Coverage was important to me.

I've always had the same carrier sort of....I started with Cellular One....they became Bellsouth......and they became Cingular.......

I'm more loyal to my cell store than the company that owns it.

I had Cingular two years ago and then switched to Sprint because Cingular's service is crap around here. My contract with Sprint is up this July but im not switching.

This still seems to be true. It would be nice to get more numbers. I know there are some out there that have made a change, but have not voted yet.

I didn't actually switch, just dropped one of my Verizon lines and added a T-Mobile line. So far so good. Service up to this point seems the same and I have to say, my T-809 is much nicer than my Verizon Razr.

Well there we have the results to date. A very small sample to judge, but most WA users have not switched in the last 2 years. The biggest gainers were the two big guys, Verizon and Cingular, in that order.

Probably follows the general trend of the annual reports.

I know many have not voted, but the poll seems pretty static now, so we'll have to revisit at a later time...but if you haven't, please vote!

    Thanks to all, viewfly

Maybe JD Power and Consumer Reports should use this data for their next report. ;)

oh wait! T-mobile is not a winner in this case, so I doubt they'll wanna use this.

And don't forget, leaf peeping season is upon us if my service flies south like the birds do in the winter I will end up switching, I do not want to go through this year what I went through last year.Although I do not have many choices VZW or Sprint.:D

I went with Nextel, which I guess counts as Sprint. At least that's what I picked in the poll.

I still have four PERSONAL lines with Verizon Wireless, but my employer is a MVNO. I have three work phones that use Sprint's network and one that uses Verizon Wireless' network.

To make things more confusing, I ported one of my phones that used the Sprint network to another device that uses VZW's network.

I guess that means I sort of switched to Sprint, then VZW, right?

Are those the only carriers that work? Or the only ones that are available in your area? We have a lot to choose from here in El Paso: Cingular, Verizon, Sprint/Nextel, T-Mobile, alltel, and cricKet.

Sprint is the better carrier in my Neighborhood, always 4 bars on my Virgin Mobile phone. Verizon works best if you can pick up an analog signal which works like Sprint 4 bars. If you have a digital only phone than it usually holds 3 bars. T-Mobile, forget it they are very weak here which is sad. They have some cool phones and great rate plans but all that is useless if they lack the spectrum. As for Nextel, well forget them as well they are the worse out of all the carriers never a signal around here,we also use them at work and I find too many holes in their coverage.
Cingular has been working fine for me here so far but it was like that last year, once all the leaves popped my service went out the door. So I guess the next few weeks we will see what happens, hopefully I will be moved by then and it will not matter, and wherever I move to I will make sure my Cingular coverage is outstanding.:)

I chose the "no change in the past 2 years one" because I still have the same Verizon and T-Mobile accounts. Though I did port my second VZ line to T-Mobile. Now that number is my main T-Mobile line. I'll probably get rid of my original T-Mo line soon.

I did have Cingular for a few months in early 2005, but got rid of them (paid the ETF) because of poor service. I've been happy with both Verizon and T-Mobile and plan to continue with them.

had cingular for 2 years, then switched to tmobile at the end of last year. I've been pleased with the better signal coverage of tmobile than with cingular. Quality is about the same considering both cingular and tmobile share the same towers.
