I've read a lot of posts about WA users switching services. I curious what the numbers really are.

So here is the question: Covering the last 2 years, how many WA users have:

    1)switched to Cingular
    2)switched to Verizon
    3)switched to Tmobile
    4)switched to Sprint

It doesn't matter what carrier you switched from, I'm just curious which direction the forum members have taken in the last 2 years. I'm not counting if you were forced merged via acquistion, say ATT to Cingular. Just a survey of your voluntary migration.

I don't count resigning up as switching either, so I can't vote

When I first started here on WA back in summer 1999 I was with Sprint. And still with them today. :)

I switched from having Cingular ever since I have owned a cell phone, to Verizon in 08/03 and switched back to Cingular in 10/04, so I just marked switched to Cingular.

I really have not changed carriers. I started with Cellular One in 1999 and it became Cingular in 2001.

Those who voted before, please vote again. I had to reset the scores to make a change requested by viewfly.

Re: How Many WA's have switched?

Well, my family and I have switched to different carriers (I will give a brief run down, even though the poll is for the last two years).

Back in 1998, we had Cellular One (TDMA). We had them for a year, and then 1999, we signed up with AT&T TDMA (they bought out Cellular One in my area). In 2000, we signed up for two plans (one was 350 anytime and 3000 n&w with Cingular TDMA, and the other Cingular TDMA plan was 350 anytime, but the promotion was cut and the N&W was 1000). In late 2002, early 2003, we switched to Sprint (700 FS plan minutes). Then in late 2003, we started having serious problems with Sprint, so after me being on the phone with them for over a month's time, they let us out of our contract. We then signed up with Verizon (1000 FS plan minutes) in Janaury of 2004, and have been with them ever since.

I tried out Cingular in September of 2005, but their network wasn't as good (imho) as Verizon in my area, so I switched to Verizon in January of 2006.

Been with ATT (analog to TDMA to GSM) from our first phone in 1995 to present... most of my wife's family is with ATT/Cingular and we can't do without the free M2M...

    Thanks bobolito! :)

So every one needs to revote. And now you can state if you didn't switch in the last two years. So now I voted.

    Charlyee, Budney...that means you two!

BTW, the poll is just if you switched, it doesn't mean if you switched and are happy with service. I'm only curious of the movement trends.

I'm sure that there are more of you out there. So please vote!

Well when I joined my family and I had Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and CricKet, then I tried out Verizon and slowly slowly everyone started to add themselves to the family plan- now we have 5 lines.
I recently added a Cingular phone for M2M purposes.

I voted for vzw because it's the closest technology to what I have.... I switched from cingular because of coverage is lacking where i am moving to next month...

About a year ago I switched from Cingular to Verizon. I couldn't be any happier with my choice. Verizon has been fantastic for me and the coverage is much better than Cingular's in my area.

Re: How Many WA's have switched?

Well I haven't used a US carrier in nearly 3 years but I did use Cingular KIC Prepaid whenever I was in town from Germany. If you want to count a foreign experience, I've been with E-Plus since getting my 1st cell phone in 2000. The only major switch I made in the last 6 years was from a standard E-Plus prepaid plan to a monthly contract offered by E-Plus through their new flatrate contract, BASE.

I also used Vodafone for 2 years while I finished my American BA in London.

Re: How Many WA's have switched?

I have been with AT&T/Cingular for around 10 years, I did try Verizon within the last 2 years but it didn't work out for me.

Now I can't say what will happen next year when my contract is up, I may try T-Mobile or Sprint depending on what deals for plans are & see if they can give me the coverage I need & by then with all the new towers going up it might come down to pricing/plans as the carriers become more equal in coverage.

    • Had customer service issues with Cingular (2004). First mobile service was with Cingular (1995).
    • Tried various prepaid services during the last half of 2004.
    • Switched to T-Mobile in January 2005.
    • Signed up with Verizon in December 2005, dislike short time frame between battery charges in Verizon phone due to lack of full signal availability in 99% of locations.
    • Not only do I Get More with T-Mobile, I can also do more with it.
    • Voted for T-Mobile.

I might add that it is web sites like WirelessAdvisor and Cell Guru that helped me make my decision to switch to T-Mobile.

    :)

Re: How Many WA's have switched?

I had alltel from May 2003-September 2003 (horrible experience). Then I had AT&T Wireless from September 2003-October 2004 (Cingular took over). Cingular from October 2004-April 2005. Started working for an exclusive authorized dealer (T-Mobile), so I got a phone from them from April 2005-September 2006. I missed Cingular so I sucked up the ETF and switched back to Cingular. So Cingular form September 2005-present.

Over the last 2 years, I had those hybrid prepaid plans:
Alltel from 4/04 to 8/04 (left b/c of value and limited national coverage at the time), ATT/Cingular from 9/04 to 8/05 (left b/c billing and phone issues), Verizon from 8/05 to 9/05...I signed a contract w/ VZW in 9/05:)

    11/01-5/03 Verizon FREEUP
5/03-5/04 Verizon Postpaid. 1 year contract. Awful coverage at college.
5/04-5/05 Cingular Wireless. 1 year contract
5/05-6/05 Verizon Wireless (Tried them out alongside Cingular, it worked fine. Then our local tower was down for 2 weeks, so I cancelled and ate the ETF. That really pis*ed me off too. I was going to cancel our Cingular lines, get mom on prepay again and use Verizon to save money. But, Verizon had to ruin that.)
6/05-present Resigned contract with Cingular Wireless for 2 years.

Yes that is for sure, but at there pace it could be interesting in the next 2-3 years to see how they are compared to the big 2. Nextel is a lost cause as far as I am concerned, they aren't into as big of a buildout push as the other 4 in our area.
I may try a T-Mobile pre-paid next year to get a good idea of coverage, but don't think it will be good enough by then.

Re: How Many WA's have switched?

T-Mobile probably has the best urban coverage in Delaware. Rock-solid, even in 'urban' Dover. Good coverage along highways, probably second to Cingular. They seemed to have built a lot of their own towers in the late 90's. However, leave the highway or urban area by a mile or two--DEAD. Probably the same in Jersey.

Re: How Many WA's have switched?

I wouldn't say that too much in the north easter part of NJ since it is pretty populated, you can in some area's go a long way before loosing a signal on T-Mobile, but once you get further west or south & away from the shore or Trenton I would say T-Mobile would fade out pretty fast.
(with our mess of highways by me, it's hard to go 2 miles to get away from one :p )

I kept my existing CellularONE-Western Wireless service and signed up with T-Mobile also, so I had service with WWC & T-Mobile.

Then WWC got bought by Alltel so now I have service with Alltel & T-Mobile. I didn't switch... they switched!:lmao:
