Do you use paid Google Apps? If not, how do you get GMail push? Or do you use the gmail app?

Set up your gmail account as an Exchange account. That will give you free push for gmail. It's straightforward. If my memory is correct, iOS Gmail would give push, but then it wasn't support or something, but the correct way is to add a new account as Exchange, and then just input your Gmail credentials, and it works.

Of course, you need to turn on 'push' in the settings menu. Within advance, you can control each email account, if you have more than 1, to manual, fetch or push, etc.

P.S. Okay, now it gets weird. Google screws us again! Looking for a link to help you out AntroMatt, I found that starting Jan 2013, Google is no longer supporting Push Gmail via ActiveSync Exchange...but will keep it for old users, like me that had it before Jan 2013...Crap on Google.

So this link shows a workaround via iCloud linking to Gmail (look here)

And I assume Google is coming with a paid 3rd party app to work for iOS and push. I've been so use to it working for native iOS I was unaware. Also it seems one can pay Google to make ActiveSync Exchange work.

Another reason for me to start removing myself from Google...all my contacts/calendar are with iOS now. Not even Microsoft.

So what I'm seeing and hearing from Gamer is that the 'off the charger time' is interesting, and what most are posting. The 'device idle time' and 'screen time', as hours/min/sec is most useful, not the % percentage numbers? At least it would be most helpful knowing the idle and/or screen time in trying to compare between platforms, WP, Android, iOS?

I had GMail set up as Exchange Push on my iPad since June 2011 and I pay $5 per year for additional storage on Picasa. So I am guessing between these two I was able to retain my GMail as Push.

I started using outlook and really like the clean look and simplicity of it. I have Outlook setup as Exchange Push as well and usually works better than GMail.

To keep the thread on topic, here is my battery usage stats right now. :)

Yeah, I got my iPhone Feb 2 so I just missed out. I just set up GMail as IMAP and set it to fetch every hour. I don't get a ton of important email on my personal account. For contacts and calendar I use CardDAV and CalDAV sync. CardDAV is far better than Google's ActiveSync setup anyway, as I am not limited to 3 email addresses per contact.

I did switch my email over to MS in March ($6/mo) since I have my own domain. Just switched back to my free (grandfathered) version of Google Apps though. So much simpler to check my email on other computers via the gmail page than it is through the convoluted OWA website address I got from MS. And saving $6/mo isn't ever a bad thing. :)

It seems that since being on this thread my battery life has become worse. My usage times were 6-8 hours, And then with some changes bumped up to 10 via projection,

Now I'm getting usage times of 5 hours! Maybe I've been in poor signal areas a lot recently.

    oh boy.

Lol Chaitali. The phone was off the charger for 16 hours. I have been fully charged for about an hour.

Time "on battery" is the time the phone wasn't plugged in.

Thanks so 15 hours of standby time and an hour of usage?

Otherwise, I am still confused. If you have been fully charged for only an hour them shouldn't the "on battery" show an hour?

I thought I had enough coffee this morning but obviously not. :D

That's odd. My phone will reset back to 0 hours on battery when I unplug it from the charger and it has received a full charge.

Thanks, that's how it usually is and mine does the same, so I am not understanding Quint's post.

Maybe it's not me after all. Lol

Ah! That's what was confusing to me, there is nothing in the screenshot to show that it is still plugged in.

So you plug it in and the hours on battery does not change throughout charging? It resets to zero when unplug it when charge is complete, correct?

The first green battery icon in the notification bar indicates a complete charge.

For the questions, the time on battery doesn't change whilst charging. And yes, the time resets when you unplug a fully charged battery.

So in the name of science, as Jay put it I decided to put my phone on the charger at 53% battery remaining. Of course to satisfy my curiosity as well. :D

The first shot is just before plugging in and the second just after. The second clearly mentions that it has been plugged in since the last full charge. This is different from what the Note 2 showed.

    [IMG][IMG]

Once it is fully charge I will edit this post to include a SS of 100% full but still plugged in and 100% full but off the charger.

I don't know about others but I am always surprised to find this type of difference between OS on something so fundamental. ;)

Edit: At 100% the battery usage resets to zero both while plugged and off the charger. The only difference being on the top right while plugged in it, shows the charging/plugged in symbol.
