I'm actually somewhat surprised with your superb usage time. Normally, I'd expect ~8 hours. When I see 12 and more hours, it normally means a lot of music playing in the usage mix. Or playing video. Was that the case?

Yesterday I did a lot of screen time and GPS nav. About a 50/50 mix of WiFi/LTE.

We would be curious what the details were for each item. Seems like it was mainly talk time. How many hours of talking was that?

Well, I went as far as I could comfortably go. I would have lasted longer, but I was visiting my best friend today who is rarely in town. His 3 year old son picked up my phone, turned it on, unlocked the screen, and said "you need to charge". After he took several photos and played with the phone I put it on the charger.

Yesterday was a total of about 45 minutes to an hour of talk time.

Voice calls, voice usage depends on the day. Sometimes its 30 mins, sometimes its a couple of hours. 50-75 text messages (total sent & received) per day. When I'm sending texts I send a lot of picture messages. "A picture says 1,000 words". When "text" texting, I always use the voice to text feature, which uses data and is battery intensive. I once was in a chat room on my phone, and using voice to text. I killed my battery in 30-40 mins. I used to stream movies on my phone, but I cancelled my Netflix account. When we want movies we just go to Redbox now. I'll do some YouTube watching on occasion, but not often. Also checking mail, and uploading pics to photobucket. Since I have LTE at home, its much faster to just take a pic with my phone and upload it to Photobucket with the phone than it is to use the digital camera and upload it with the laptop.

Occasionally I will stream internet radio, but that all depends on my mood. If nothing is good on terrestrial radio I'll stream, but terrestrial radio is my first choice for music.

Being a neophyte, this is interesting stuff. Excuse my inexperience here with android. From your screen shots posted in this thread, I gather you were not doing most of those things this time? I don't see them listed, not even the camera usage. Or is that info too granular for this app?

No, no music playing or video at all. My biggest battery drain is GroupMe, SMS, Forums, News, E Mails, Facebook,Twitter, and phone calls, in just about that sequence.

I usually charge mine at the 20% beep at which point I have had about 9 hours of usage, longer if I have been mostly on WiFi. Average usage time for me is 8-11% per hour. Right now I have 2 hrs and 22 mins of usage with battery at 79% which would be around 8% per hour, it will go up since so far there has been very little GroupMe usage.

On that charge there was voice usage, text messaging (voice to text), no picture messaging. Facebook usage, a bit of camera use, but not a lot. I've been happy with what I hear on Terrestrial radio the past few days, so no internet radio. I think all usage that totals less than 2% of the total battery life is lumped into "android services" For example, early on Bluetooth shows on my list, but on the last screenshot it does not.

    Thanks Charlyee and Jay.

Jay, interesting. I mainly focus on usage more then off the charger time. Trying to get some cross connection there.

Charlyee, I'm happy with my battery life but I'm intrigued by your 12 hour mark. Maybe I don't let it drain down often enough or I should review what unnecessary notifications I have on.

Wasn't doing much with my phone the last 17 hours, Tapatalk, printing and some browsing. One phone call. Quite a difference from yesterday.

You also have 130 apps and I have around 35 or so, that could also be a factor in battery usage.

Yeah! Amazing how long battery can last if the device isn't used. :D. Sorry couldn't resist ;)

Here is a higher end of my 8-11% per hour battery usage. This one is almost excatly 10% per hour. The one main difference is I was on LTE 2/3 of the time this go around. Back to putting it on the charger at 20%.

Even though I have 135 apps, your thumbs must be smoking by day's end Charlyee.

When I place my phone on the charger by bedtime, say 15 hours from wake up, I'm normally at 50% or so, and that's a few hours of usage. 18 hours and being down to 1 to 20% is a lot of usage.

I'd say its the same with the Androids spec's here. Getting a full day is not hard, but how much battery one has left and the actual usage is most interesting.

I don't check my battery much anymore as I know I can make it at least a day and a half between charging. This is the best time that I have received on my iPhone 5. My usage is 1.5 hours of iPod, emails, a few short calls, web browsing, and a lot of "WhatsApp" usage. I also used the camera app a little as well. I don't use WiFi much anymore as LTE is a lot faster in most areas that I am in with AT&T.

One thing that I have noticed is that once my iPhone is fully charged it takes a while for it to drop down to 99% as seen in this screenshot:

    Lol viewfly, yes just about.

I am not sure what is "few hours" of usage with battery at 50% but here is mine at 50%

I'm thinking it is the many applications that I have, and my carefree attitude to not worry about how many are active in the notification system or using my GPS, auto download, etc. I also have 4 emails on a hourly fetch.

I was not concerned since getting 6-7 hours of 'usage' time is normal, even by Apple spec standards. I look at the rate by taking the battery % remaining, subtracting it from 1 and then dividing that into the Usage number. That gives me a consistent estimate of about 6-7 hours.

But what surprised me was IrishRose using only 23 min or so in a few hours. I was using over an hour 'doing nothing'.

So I went through all my notifications, GPS usage, etc that were unnecessary. I kept the ones that I use and need, so it's still a smartphone (maps, FB, etc), and only fetch 1 email and the rest manual. A lot of background stuff going on for apps I wasn't using (newspapers updates, etc).

Things changed rapidly, now I'm looking at estimated Usage times of 10-11 hours. Here's a snapshot. 2.33/(1-.79) = 11 hours. I have a few more snapshots that are showing the same rate.

Very useful thread to compare time with other iPHone users.

So now that i understand the difference, I can go either way.

i have always been a believer that Push uses less battery than Fetch, since with fetch the device is polling at the defined interval irrespective of whether there is any mail to download.

So both my GMail and my Oulook are Push and my work email manual.

Here's a screenshot from my iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4 after a fairly standard usage day of some texting (mostly iMessages), a couple calls, checking email over LTE a couple times, and looking one or two things up on the web over LTE.

My battery always lasts through the day for me, even on heavy usage days. The 3GS didn't always make it, and the 4 was close, but since the 4S I no longer pay much attention to it.

    Knock Knock?? This thing on????

Ok. I'm paranoid about battery life and I just got a NEW 4200 mAh battery
My old one started to not hold a charge any longer.

This is medium to low high usage. LOTS of streaming and I was on the phone a bunch.

That's the best battery usage time that I have seen on this thread and in the other forum where I saw it originally.

Cool. Since you were steaming this caused a shortened battery day. How do I tell that in the stats? Was the screen on the whole time? We're is the battery drain from the 3G usage?

Viewfly, I was streaming via the MLB at bat app.

In terms of 3G battery drain, it wasn't quite caught in the previous shot. To see how the signal affects the drain, you need to tap on the graph and see this [IMG]

You can tell whether the screen was on when whole time and whether the phone was awake...

In my case, screen was on most of the time and phone was awake the whole time. That can be seen in that page as well if I went to that page.

Amazingly, the screen was the killer this time. I was having some issues with the MLB app... And I was playing my music which required the screen to be mostly on.

I have noticed something interesting about my battery percentage. I turn off my phone at night say around 98-99% and when I turn it back in the morning it is at 100%.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

    Thanks :)

Well, if you're actually turning it off, (and not charging) then its possible that the battery builds up a surface charge that triggers the phone to report 100% in the morning.
