Hey guys, I'm currently an AT&T customer (boston area) and i've noticed that their coverage has actually gotten WORSE. My friend, who just bought a T-mobile service says that his service has been great. I'm confused. I thought AT&T and T-mobile shared wireless towers? I live in a town called lexington, and he can get a signal in my house but i can't get a signal AT ALL! (Several months ago i could get a weak signal in parts of my house). Should i move over to t-mobile or is it just a fluke? Any MA/New england area T-mobile subscribers like their service?
T-Mobile and AT&T do not specifically share towers (there may be areas where both carriers are on the same tower, but other than that there is no sharing between the two). I have T-Mobile in the Boston area and absolutely am satisfied. At both my home and my work I have amazingly strong signal. Also, everywhere I go in and around Boston I have excellent coverage. You will even have coverage in parts of the subway in Boston...T-Mobile has sites at some stations and in tunnels.
I assume you;re with ATT TDMA service - It's going to crap, as did Cingulars in my area, with the migration to GSM for these TDMA carriers - it's really screwing them up. Thus, even though I am no fan of VZN politics (although, my God, ATT is theeee worst !!!) I am back to them for now. T Mob is cool in that they only have 1 yr contracts. The big point here is, that however they are doing this switch over is corrupting their TDMA service. If you like ATT otherwise, maybe try their GSM ? I will in time, go to a GSM carrier myself, likely Cingular or maybe T Mob
TDMA right now is very extensive in coverage, comparable to Verizon. Before they (Cingular and ATT) do away with this they will have to duplicate this with GSM first.
hey welcome to GSM. poor signal or no signal ! yea ! thats why i stuck with verizon. however all will improve with time !
Yea, I was wondering how the t-mobile service is, in the NYC metro area? I currently have verizon, and I love their service, but I just hate their phones!, lol. I would like to go to t-mobile and get the "danger sidekick" pda/phone. I herd great things about it, and I also herd t-mobile's service is great too. If anyone else in the queens, manhattan, brooklyn area would like to comment on how their t-mobile serivce is, please do so. Thanks!
I see your using the S46, have you thought about trying a GAIT phone, I have the T62u and it has been working great for me, the few times i don't get a good signal with GSM it automatically switches to TDMA mode so i am never without coverage. And yes in TDMA mode you will not get SMS or notification of VM messages but to me being able to make and receive calls were my first concern, and once you go back into GSM mode you will get your SMS and if any VM's the message you have them.
I had T-Mobile and I now have Verizon. I live on Long Island and travel often to Maryland and back. T-Mobile was not very good. I lost my signal often if I had one and it was just a waste to bring the phone into the store with me because if i entered a building I lost service. So I switched to Verizon, service is excellent but the phones stink. There is no fun to them, but for what i need it for is service and that is exactly what I get from VZW. I have a seperate PDA for work I like it that way so that if I misplace the phone i still have my PDA and vice versa.
In my case it certainly was. Leaving AT&T Wireless was the highlight of 2003 for me so far. I have been extremely pleased with Sprint PCS. I've taken this phone from coast to coast and it works extremely well. Just took it to Chicago this weekend and I had a great signal all over the city. Unbelievable since I'd heard about holes in Chicago. Maybe they are in areas where I wasn't. It even worked down in the basement at Morton's. Anyway, to get back on topic......sometimes the grass is greener. You just have to find what works best for you. Jeff
When I work in Boston/Prov./NYC one of the contractors I use has T-Mob. His coverage seems pretty good, the only problem I see or he complains about is coverage on top of high rises, or lack of interior coverage compared with my Verizon phone, he also occassionally complains about busy signals, but I do not think he gets them too often. I do not see T-Mob as bad in any way, I would suggest it over ATT GSM at this point. You get a lot of minutes for your money.
I use T-Mobile in Boston and have been very satisfied. If you don't leave populated areas, you should be fine here. For the New Yorker, T-Mobile is fine in the City, particularly Manhattan, but leaves much to be desired on LI. I've heard mixed reports about Westchester - my experiance there was limited to 684 and the Saw. I was fine in SE Rockland.
