That's interesting. I wonder why they don't come to your area. Maybe there were a lot of business clients that wanted to sign up which would make them a lot of money.

I have never seen that around before in our city...but we aren't as big as say Ft. Myers or Orlando...;)

Our Town is only 9 square miles, with a pop of 56,000. But Business wise we have alot of big Corporations here, like Schering, Englehardt, Bed bath & beyond as well as some big companies that do military contracts & a University, as well as next to Newark & Elizabeth so it's a busy area.
So there are alot of big compnies in town they are trying to get.

So that is why you saw a Cingular van there.

Our town only has a population of 20,000 in the town itself, but if you add up the whole county, then the population is around 300,000.

So I'm in the same situation as Gamer - I have 2 Sprint phones on a family plan and I want to move to Cingular. I've found 2 people who are interested in taking over my Sprint contract. I also want to keep my numbers (we've had it for 4 years and we really like it).

The problem is that Sprint tells me whenever I actibate the Cingular phone and have them issue a WLNP, Sprint would automatically close the 2 lines I have with them and issue ETFs on both. Now, what I want to do is change the Sprint numbers to new numbers and transfer my old numbers to Cingular.

Talked to a couple of Sprint reps over the phone and they seemed confused about the deal and finally said the system automatically cancels the line when a number port is done. I'm looking for advise on how I can get this done (I plan to go to the Sprint store tomorrow and talk to someone in person..). Thanks in advance! :)

The way I understand WLNP is the way the Sprint Reps have described it. You can't port out of Sprint to Cingular without incurring the ETF because it will automatically close your account. You can't change your number first and then get port your old number to Cingular because Cingular needs to have the account information on the account they are porting from. Sounds like a mess to me!

I don't know how much more they are going to be able to do at the Sprint store. If I were you, I would have the 2 people that are taking over your account keep your phone numbers and just get new numbers with Cingular. It would be a lot easier!

Yeah, switching your numbers will still on Sprint will lose your numbers. Since Sprint has the rights to that exchange, you HAVE to port to get those numbers on Cingular (unless you ported them TO Sprint). Basically, are you numbers worth the ETF? Gamer got out of his ETF because Sprint used to provide him with service, but now he gets no signal. They basically admitted fault (which is rare).

That's how I always got my bill to go down-with the dropped call credit. I have to give credit to sprint for at least offering such an easy to use feature...maybe they know they have lots of dropped calls so they offer it, LOL ;)

Yes he was lucky to get out of his contract, but wasn't able to keep his same numbers unfortunately :(

    Oh.......I missed that part. :(

So I guess we are VERY lucky since like larry mentioned in another thread, that Sprint was able to admit that it was their fault.......;)

I think you were very lucky indeed! I don't hear too many people that have been able to get out of contracts. I was happy though to hear that Sprint did this for you as they were no longer providing you the service they once did...

That's true......but I still was switched between different reps and none of the reps had the same answer.

My parents said not to worry about the coverage.....and that Sprint won't let us out of our contracts.

But I said that I was going to keep trying and I eventually accomplished my goal. :)

Which was ultimately the goal! Your story gives us everyone who has issues with their provider that were fine before some hope to get out of the contract. It really is a good story...

WEll but if you keep reading you will notice that Sprint waived the ETF for his two phones and let him go.

And I was with a company that had 8 ETF's waived with the help of a reseller for Verizon. There are ways to get it done...

I know cellular companies don't pay ETF's.....I already found that out....so I took a different approach.

I know I can forget about it......since Sprint waived our two ETF's and we have now been with Verizon for a week.

The title is misleading, but if you read the whole thread then you would have seen my post about Sprint waiving the fees. ;)

I didn't mean to sound rude.....:(

But I also wanted to point out the fact that once you have a title for your thread and it is longer than the "fix" limit, then that is your title. :)

Gamer, didn't you try Verizon about a year ago (when you ventually decided on Sprint)?

Verizon has done the same thing as Sprint did in your town, coverage is even worse now, and non-existant inside in many parts of town. Stupid CDMA carriers! Did you ever think of T-Mobile?
