That is great news for you. I have one literally within 100 yards of my house, so even with the trees I still get readings in the -60DB range!

Well you guys are getting fried by the towers in your area; I don't have towers that close to my house at all ;) AZ, how's Nextel at your house? So you have a house or appartment? Is the tower in someone's yard or what?

I live in an apartment and the Cingular tower is in an industrial park next door. The tower is co-located with a Nextel tower, so both providers have great service near me. Basically it is perfect!

Nahhh, there are so many towers out there, I think there may be risks, but I will take them to have good coverage on my wireless phone!!!

It's really one of those things that I'm not going to worry about until I hear some very conclusive eveidence that it is very bad for you. Then, I think we will see more people using headsets anyway. Think about 2-way radios, people have been using them for years and there are repeaters all over the place. Police and Fire personnel, not to mention construction would have major issues if RF were considered to be a leading cancer causing agent...

Exactly my point, you (and I) are doing fine, as well as the millions of folks out there that have been using RF in radios and other devices over the years. There may be some merit to holding a tranciever up to your head, but the wattage is so low, that I have a hard time believing this will cause problems. Now, if we were still using 3 watt phones, we may have an issue, but analog is on it's way out and i see very few people using this in thier daily activities...

I have heard of people who have had that done, sort of. If you, say, have service with two providers and you want to take one line from, for example, Cingular to Verizon, so that it will be on the same account as your other line. Depending on how long you have been with Verizon and how much your early termination fee with Cingular is, I have heard of carriers issuing credits to cover the ETF but only in rare circumstances. I have also heard rumors of authorized dealers paying ETFs, as Budney already pointed out. I would not say that this is a typical industry practice, however. Good luck, though, Gamer.

Hopefully I will find someone to take over our service......change of responsibility like azcellphonejunkie did. ;)

I'm telling you, it is the way to go! If you can find someone that is willing to do it, you will be very happy. Start posting on the Off-Topic stuff here, and in the Marketplace on HoFo and see what happens!

Yeah, I'll bet you can find someone fast on HoFo. There's a :censored: -ton of people on that website. The only thing is, will Sprint do a COR over the phone or would you have to find someone that lives in the same general area you do?

I don't know. Once I post a potential change/transfer of responsibility in HoFo, then I will call Sprint. Actually, strike that reverse it....;)

I should call Sprint right now and ask them.

Please let us know what they tell you. This could be a sticky in and of itself. How each of the providers do the COR process!!!

According to a person on SU (monkeyboy):

Yes, it is doable and quite easy. Just call Sprint CS and the transfer is straightforward. However, it cannot be a random arrangement, the person must be willing to taken on the contract, as is, the phone number/line, etc. Changes can be made to the rate plan, equipment, but the basic line must be intact (I doubt you could change the phone number easily). So then, why would anybody random be willing to do this for you ? Unless you provide them so incentive (i.e. $$ or something else). Generally it happens when family members or friends taken on another's phone. I don't think you can have any expectation of finding someone to do this who doesn't know you, unless there is some incentive involved.

If in fact you are in SW Florida, presumably it would have to be someone willing to have that locale's phone number.

If I remember correctly, you pay to change your number with Sprint correct? I think that was the case when i did it 3 years ago. With my COR on T-Mobile, the person was able to change the number right away over the phone, and when he called me back on my other cell, I made a test call and the number had already been changed!

Yeah. I think someone on SU said that.

So I guess I have to try to find a CSR that is willing to let us out of our two contracts....hopefully they will, becuase I am starting to get really mad.

Gamer if worse comes to worse just pay the ETF, avoid all the hassle and time spent trying to find someone to take over your contract and get a carrier that works for you...sell your Sprint phones to compensate for the ETF's and be happy. ;)

Yeah....but Samsung VGA's are only going for $30 on average at EBAY.

Maybe I will pay the ETF myself...and then my parents could pick up the rest...or I am going to keep calling Sprint and complaining nicely to them on the phone.... ;)

I wonder how much dropped calls I have to get at my house until Sprint lets us out of our contract.

If the other carrier was able to pay the ETF, I would think that you'd have to get a substantial plan to make it worth their while.

What is considered a substantial plan?

$89.98 a month plus tax plus three brand new phones. Is that substantial enough?

    Thanks.

You know about the dropped call credit right? Call *2 and say "credit for a dropped call" and you can get credit for up to 20 dropped calls per month...

If you're nice about it, they may just ignore you. Call them right after every dropped call at home and sound angry with their crappy service that used to be good. They're holding you hostage with the ETF.

I don't think getting angry is the answer, but rather talking to someone who is either knowlegable and willing to help, or understands your concern and wants to help. Either way, it may take a few calls to get someone to listen to you.

Well like I said earlier, I am waiting to hear back from Sprint.

I also wrote to the FCC at their e-mail address, but I bet it takes them forever to get back to you.

I tried talking to a supervisor last night, but the rep. said "I am not a supervisor, but I can still help you."

Are reps taught to not connect people to supervisors?

If the tower checks out, and Sprint doesn't resolve my issue, then I will firmly ask to speak to a supervisor in a nice manner, since like you said, it doesn't help getting angry at people.

I wonder if Sprint didn't hold up their end of the bargain when they said:

"So Sprint is lying to me when they say the following:

"All plans shown include these features while on the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network":

    Crystal-Clear Calls

That is false advertising imo....since I am on the Sprint PCS Nationwide Network at home outside, and when I do get a signal (yesterday I made 8 calls outside my house and only 2 worket for 30 seconds, and the call was garbled.

So again, that is false advertising imo. :(

Becuase I get a weak signal at my home while on the Sprint PCS Nationwide Network, the call isn't crystal clear....it is garbled.
