Ok I have a motorola V3A that is programed on the alltel network, I set up a verizon prepaid account for my daughter..got the phone number and its activated to this phone. When I did the *228 thing it comes up welcome to alltel to activate your phone press 3..then it fails to activate.

How do I manually program the alltel phone to work with my daughters verizon phone number.
I already called verizon, because that phones manual does not come up in there system they said to research the internet or call alltel to do it. Alltel was useless to me..kept trying to get me to go back to them.

    Please I need help..Thank you
    Erica

Again, I'm only lookin for help to manually program an alltel phone into a verizon wireless phone.

Even though Alltel and Verizon are one company now, they are still two separate entities (as integration is still 6 to 12 months from completion). Not only that but Verizon is notoriously difficult to activate phones from other carriers on, even with a carrier they now own,

The phone's ESN (electronic serial number) must be in their database. Using option 3 on *228 will do nothing, that's why it failed. The ESN number should be located beneath the battery where you may see a bar code.

What you want to do is not as easy as you would think. Because it's prepaid makes it even more difficult. There are technical issues involved as well.

It is possible, but the headaches involved trying to get it to work may be more than it's worth.

The esn number is in their data base but they do not have a ny information manual to tell them how to manually go into the phone and program it on verizon. So its not the esn number its the proper program.

Try going to Motorola's web site to see if you can locate the user manual for the phone or see if there is a way to contact Motorola directly.

Hi, I've been an Alltel Wireless Agent for 14 years. And I think I might can help you. I probably shouldn't tell you how to do this but here it goes.

    - First you will need to make SURE your phones ESN is in the Verizon database.
    - Next, you will need to find out from a Verizon Agent what your MDN (Mobile Device Number) and MIN (Mobile Information Number) are on you Verizon account.
    - Next you will need to find out what you SID (System Identification) is for your area in the Verizon Network. (You should be able to find out all these things at your local Verizon store.)
    - Now take you Motorola RaZR and while it is on the home screen, type the following "7,4,6,6,3,#,CLEAR,CLEAR" (it spells out PHONE,#,CLEAR,CLEAR)
    - Once you do that you should be prompted to select NAM1 or NAM2. Select "NAM1"
    - Now you will be manually programming you phone to work on the Verizon Network.
    - Fill in the MDN, MIN, and SID blanks under the NAM1 configuration. (these blanks will probably still have the last number the phone was used on still programed in it, just clear those out, and replace it with the Verizon Information) .
    - Once you have finished reprogramming the MDN, MIN, and SID, go back to the NAM menu, and click the END key. The phone will now restart and be programed under the Verizon Network.
    - If you have any problems with the phone, you can always try flashing the BIOS.

-Oh, One more thing, If you manage to program this phone on the Verizon network, you will not be able to Use the Alltel Access Apps and The Mobile Web. You will also not be able to update your PRL'S on you Alltel Phone, which means if Verizon gets new towers in your area, you will not be able to update to them. If you ever use this phone on a Verizon post-pay account, this will definately screw up your roaming areas

    - Also, once you do this, DO NOT TRY TO ACTIVATE USING *228 because it will automatically through it back onto the Alltel Network.

Good Luck, I hope I've been helpful. Let me know How it goes.

Great information, alltelagent, but since they'll be one company soon, it's better off people wait.

It's more of a problem than it's worth to get phones working from one CDMA carrier to another.

Verizon and Alltel operating separately will be a thing of the past soon enough.

True, But it still depends on weather or not the customer is in a divested or non-divested market.
I agree that it is more of a pain than it's worth. Plus using a different carriers phone on a different network is very unstable. I think in the long run if "mommy31545" wants to avoid purchasing a phone for her pre-paid account, she might as well just sign a 2yr on a post-pay account and get a new free RaZR. Verizon is going to really improve Alltel users service. :)

Even in divested markets, trying to get a VZ phone to work with Alltel won't be worth it because who knows who'll be acquiring the network? Will it remain CDMA? What will happen in the mean time?

With so much uncertainty, it's better to just get a phone from the carrier itself. I know I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of getting a non-Alltel phone to work on Alltel, only to have it possibly change with new network ownership coming in. What support would there be? Would they support non-Alltel phones?

I do see your point though.:)

Try *22800 if that does not work try changing from automatic to home or in reverse.
