How do I activate and configure VX4400?

This is probably been asked and answered a bunch of times. But, if you guys wouldn't mind repeating it one more time so that I don't need to dig through the search results, I'd appreciate it.

I just bought a used LG VX4400 to replace a phone for my brother (he dropped his phone in salt water and ruined it). ;-)

It looks like the VX4400 I bought already has a phone number plugged into to it when I look at the menu for "my phone". The vendor guarantees the phone will work with Verizon and that it has a clear ESN.

How do I setup the phone so that his Verizon number is in it (or will the phone automatically use the new number when the ESN for it is activated, and know where to go for Voice Mail, etc.)?

Can I activate the phone online somewhere, do I need to call Verizon and give them the ESN for it, or do I need to bring the phone to a Verizon store location?

My brother is on my brother-in-law's Verizon plan (the phone he dropped in salt water is being replaced by this one), and he's coming by in a little while to get the phone. So, I wanted to try and get it working (if possible) while he's here and we can access his Verizon Account online.

    Thanks in advance.

You can activate the phone online by logging in to your account and clicking on activate phone; or, if that fails, you can call customer service from another phone to activate. If you try activating online and it fails, CS will waive the fee if you have to call in.

You can take the phone to a VZW store and they can help there as well

    Thanks....

I'll give it a go when my brother-in-law comes by for lunch and see if we can get it working online. Hopefully, he remembers his login ID and password). :)

He's got multiple phones on the account. So, I'm assuming there is a way to assign this phone to the same phone number the old one was using (deactivate it and use the ESN for the new one instead).

If not, we'll give Verizon a call.

How about the phone number programmed into the phone? Do we need to change it somewhere in the phone, or will it automatically use the new one for voice mail, etc., once we activate it online?

Yes, he'll have to select the appropriate phone number; I've never activated a phone online, but there should be some programming directions online when he does the replacement (or when he calls in to CS)... as for the previous phone number, that will be replaced with his information when he activate it. I do think this is normal for the previous number to be in the phone when the previous user swapped phones... all calls to it wont ring the phone in your posession. If there is an activation problem with the phone (i.e. bad ESN) CS should be able to spot it immediately.

We called customer service, and they talked us through plugging some codes (*22890 send, *711, etc.) into the phone during the process after we gave then the ESN.

It's programmed and working fine now.

    Thanks.

For Voicemail, go into "messages" and look for MSG settings, scroll down to "edit voicemal #" and change it to either your # or *86.
