I'm completely stressed/bummed out. Was so excited because I got the most amazing deal on a Treo 650 on Ebay, well now that I have it, I find out Hotsync isn't compatible with Windows XP Media Center edition...

I've heard people have found workarounds to this, but I have been unsuccessful thus far finding anything that applies to me...

My laptop doesn't recognize that I have the device connected at all...

    Can anyone help?!

Ash, do you really need the Media Center edition? If so, I can't think of anything other than running VMWare and installing XP Home or XP Pro on VMWare. If you don't, maybe you can just replace Media Center with Home or Pro? I mean, when Palm says that Media Center edition is incompatible and that status doesn't change for over a year, that pretty much means there won't be any easy solution :(

I don't need it, but it was what came standard with my laptop, and the idea of having to purchase the Home edition, when I already have a perfectly fine working OS right now just seems redundant to me...

I would then look to see if there are any third-party syncing programs that you could use instead of Hotsync... I agree on the redundancy issue.

My dumb:censored: never even thought about looking for 3rd party syncing programs. Great idea, thanks!

The problem isn't really the software, so much as the fact that my computer doesn't recognize the drivers. So it doesn't know that the Treo is even connected...

I think that's why BT was suggested...

Exactly. It could very well be the contacts on the phone. I had this problem where the device wasn't recognized and the BT solved it.

I Didn't realize BT over USB would make a difference. My bad. I am still illiterate at quite a few things technologically speaking...

I may have to try that. I did manage to download one of the programs I wanted directly to my phone, (Agile Messenger), and wouldn't you know, after all that trouble, it wouldn't connect...

    or it does nothing?

It does nothing. A whole lot of zilch. I've actually wondered if something is wrong with the cable itself, because shouldn't my computer at least know somethings attached to it, even tho it's not sure what it is...

I never could get any of the suggestions to work on my Palm Tungsten E and Media Center Edition.:(

I gave up and just started to use my old XP laptop to sync it.;)

Now I just got my wife a Treo 680 and it says it doesn't work with MCE either? Would it work with Vista Home which I have on the way from Microsoft?

I am using it on my old laptop for now because I just don't have time to fool around with it.
She is exceited about it and until I know it will work with the MCE or Vista I am not going to chance losing everything on her Palm again.

    Thanks for any advice,
    Lynn

Vista allows hotsyncing data, but the quickinstall program will not work unless you run it in winxp mode.
I have home ultimate and I can sync just fine, but cannot install apps.

Will the BT dongle thing solve my Windows XP MCE Hotsync problems?

I am having to use my old XP laptop and not my new hi-tech desktop and it is driving my wife crazy!:(
She is dogging me about it and I have tried everything to fix it.:censored:

I have received my Vista upgrade disc but I don't dare try to install it yet.

I have thought about getting a XP disc and installing it on there to get everything working until a fix can be had.

    Thanks,
    Lynn

I don't believe it syncs with xpme. Check treocentral.com >> Your #1 resource for the Treo Smartphone for more answers regarding the issue. I think on palm's own website they state there is a problem. Palm still hasn't updated their software in years and the fix for vista is still not out. That being said, don't expect them to release a patch to help with XPME.

Thanks for the Treo Central link but I searched it yesterday and there is nothing there.:(

I am going to get a copy of Windows XP and install it on my desktop until they get Treo/Palm working with Vista and then put it back on...maybe.;)

    Thanks again,
    Lynn

The only part that doesn't work with vista is the quick install. I just copy the programs to my sd card and install them from there. Of course this won't work for all programs.
