 Ok.. I give up, I can't transfer any of my MP3 files to my Razr V3 BLK. Today I went to cingular store and I told them what I did and what happened, they suggested me to buy one of those PHONE TOOL KITS DATA WIRE for $59.99 (software included) hmmm, I don't know if they're tricks me or not but that little usb wire and a software for $59.99 is kinda pricy

Not really. You can do a lot with the software besides send mp3s to your phone. Like, transfer pictures to and from the phone as well as backup your contact list.

You can use a digital camera cable that you probably already have, and software from motomodders.net and do it for free.

Jay, can you give me a link to that software so I could dowload it. I went to that website yesterday and I got a theme software but I don't see any for MP3.

    thanks in advance.

You have to register on their site before all sections become available. Basic membership is free and it will allow you to access all forums and downloads. Personally I use their P2K Commander for file transfers. The only catch is in the sounds directory after you add or delete files you have to also delete the 2 database files (*.db) then reboot the phone. When the phone is turned on again the phone will rebuild the files then they can be accessed as ringtones. Click on the link in my signature for my reference base. You will find links to all sorts of good info there.

Another option that I did was get a cable & the software on Ebay for around $20.00 and I am able to transfer ringtones & pictures as well as back up my contact information.

You can usually find generic 'data cables' for your phone on ebay pretty cheap. But the Motorola Phonetools is copiedrighted, and if you find it cheap on ebay it could very well be a pirated copy.

You may not have an issue with that, but know you most likely couldn't get any support or help with it from that vendor.

I bought a generic data cable on Ebay for $0.99 for my Moto V551. The V3 uses standard digital camera cables though, so you may already have one.

But if the camera cable has a litte plastic box or something on the wire, it wont work. It has to be just a normal wire.

The cable that came with my Canon 7.1 megapixel camera works when I add ringtones to my black Razr. I use MPT to upload and create custom ringtones.

Yea my cable that came with my Olympus, too.. because it doesnt have that little box thingy on it. If it has it, it restricts some power from flowing through the cable and it doesn't work.

The cable that came with my Canon G3 probably won't work with my hope to have soon black Razr. It has the lump in the cable, that lump is actually a UART chip I believe. It basically converts USB to slower serial.

I think the cables that don't have the lump are a mini USB cable.

That's exactly what you need, a Mini-USB. A few motorola cables have that box in them and people have problems with them. Motorola calls it the "Future Dial" cable. Stay away from it.

You can buy the "lumpless" mini-USB cables at any good electronics store... Fry's for sure has them.

Yes, the 'Future Dial' cables equal death when you're trying to modify a phone. I did see a thread over in HoFo where some genius figured out how to 'hack' the FD cable and get it to work for flashing/flexing, etc. but it seemed like a lot of work. Still, if you accidentally end up with one, nice to know there's hope.

As long as you get it with the disk from a reliable ebay seller you shouldn't have a problem, I have gotten all of the updates with no problems, but you are right and make sure you get it from a reliable source with the CD.

I think it is much more convenient to get a USB-Bluetooth dongle, pair it with your phone and transfer anything you want to your phone. No need to deal with special phone software which is usually buggy, have trouble recognizing the phone, etc. The transfer rate is slower than the USB cable, but it is easier to transfer stuff to or from the phone especially since it is quite reliable.

I have wanted to go that route but haven't yet. USB adapters for the PC can be found pretty cheap, I may do that soon.
