I bought a new phone from a 3rd party and tried to activate the new phone yesterday. The CSR that was assisting me informed that that I could not activate the new phone because I was in an extended coverage area. He said I would have to travel to a local coverage area and make the call to switch phones. I live in Amarillo, TX which is located in an extended coverage area. I am on a company phone plan and my company is based near the Houston, TX area. Unfortunately, the closest local coverage area is Wichita Falls and that is around 220 miles away from Amarillo and I will not be traveling to that area for at least a month. Are there any loopholes to activate my phone or am I out of luck?
chances are they need you to do a *228, option 1 update to activate your phone and that can only be done from a local cell tower, however, you could try going onto verizonwireless.com and activate your phone through their website (enter the esn or whatever it is they ask for) then attempt a *228, 1, if it says "Verizon Wireless" then chances are it will work fine, otherwise you may be SOL....
The other day a CSR had me do a *228 and that didn't work. Then we tried a **777 (something similar) and went thru the AKEY and other inputs. Should I still attempt to try this online?
if you did a *228 then chances are you've already or the agent already registered your phone with their towers, at this point I'm not sure if doing it online would make any difference or if you are going to in fact have to go to a local tower area....
You should try to activate it online...you save the 30 someting dollars for activation and it might just work...
Could you please provide a link to the location on the Verizon Wireless website? I'm not sure where I'd go about changing phones.
i dont see why you cant do the *228 on extended..........when i'm on Sprint and roam on VZW.........i can do the *228.........VZW recognizes the number and it picks up.....why cant the OP do it
Re: Carrier Cell Exchanges I'm trying to identify the carrier in North Carolina that would "own" the 307 exchange. ( ie. 704-307-xxxx). Can anyone advise ? Thanks !
