I just recently got a razr v 3 m verizon wireless, and got a sd card.I formatted the card in my phone and connected the phone to my computer via sd card reader i put the music in my shared folder but when i go to my phone and go to my music i get a player error.what am i doing wrong and where do i put ringtones that are already converted any help would be great. thanks
Most Moto phones have a bit rate limit for the quality of both ringtones and songs that they will play. I'm not sure what the limit is for the V3m, but I would try reducing the bit rate to 192 or less. You can use a free program called Audacity to do that. A link to download it, and tutorial on using it are at the link below. You'll need to get the LAME encoder also. Convert CD Audio Files To MP3 Ring Tones Bob
Easiest way for music is to use WMP and sync your phone with it. By syncing it via WMP it will convert the songs to *.wma's like are needed and set everything right. Like meniotned there are bit rate limits and also file name length limits also. So if you have any songs with to long of a name they don't work. as for ring tones use what was mentioned I use the same thing and it works great. Now as for where they go it depends on what software you plan on using to put them on the phone. If you use MPT it will put them in the correct location. If you plan on using p2kcommander they need to go into the /motorola/shared/audio folder. Then you need to go back to the root directy on the phone /a and delete the mytone.db file. After whihc time you can cycle the power on the phone and it will re-index the /audio folder so the new ring tones show up. FYI tho by deleting tha tfile tho it will reset all your ring tones everytime you do it, so if you have custom ring tones for specific contacts the ywould all have to be reset.
The Make Your Own Ringtone site does indeed allow you to cut out a portion of your MP3 and make it into a ringtone - and it's free. There doesn't appear to be any obvious catches or gotchas involved. No spyware, no spam. And it's a bit less complicated than using Audacity. BUT, you do have to give away the MP3 that you paid for (you did pay for it, right?), as you have to upload it to their site. And the ring tone they make for you is only 64 bit in quality, regardless of the quality of what you uploaded (iTunes quality - 128 bit, or CD quality - 320 bit or higher), you get 64 bit back as a ring tone. Probably not a big deal as ring tones go, but if you want to wow people with your music ring tone, rather than annoy them, you want to keep as much as possible of the original music in it. Audacity allows you to choose the bit rate, so you can use the maximum your phone will play.
mate i think your problem is the kind of format of the song that you had installed in your mmc...if you have a little time try to look for a onverter which is wav converter...you may convert the mp3 formatted song to wae for you to use it as a ringtone....hope this will help... gadgets crusader
FYI wav files will not work as ringtones on a v3m from VZW and they must be on the physical memory of the phone to work. you can not have a song/ring tone on the MMC and use it as a ring tones. As for using the phone as a music player the songs must be in WMA format and using WMP is the esiaest way to get music to the MMC on the phone. Has anyone gotten this to work? I'm also using the SDcard and while recording a voice recording makes it available for ringtones, once it's moved to / from the SDcard it's no longer available for ringtones, no matter what format it's in (I've tried .mp3, .wav, and .qcp...the last because that's what the recordings save as on my phone). I've tried uploading ringtones that were already available as well as using Audacity to make a clip of my own. What it seems to come down to is that once it hits the SDcard, it's no longer available, like it's losing the correct formating or something (yes, music files are still available so it's not the card...even the sound files are still available to listen to, just not to assign as ringtones). I've tried using Audacity as well as WMP...nothing works other than recording directly to the phone and not moving the file. I know I must be doing something wrong and am really hoping that someone else has gotten this to work (if there's ANY way to just transfer using the mini-disk, I'd be ecstatic, since that was kinda the purpose of buying the thing). Thanks in advance!
P.S. In all my reading around the forums, I keep coming upon stuff about SEEMing and using software, but if I'm just using the SDcard, can I avoid having to mess with all of that stuff?
To Kathy S. The voice recording may not be the proper bit rate. Transfer it to your PC and play it with Windows Media PLayer. While it's playing, choose FIle and Properties. It should tell you the bit rate. I;m nto sure what the max bit rate is fro your phone, but it's probably 128 or 192. Bob
What service are you using? If it's Verizon, I have read from users that regardless of what the phone can do, they restrict what you can put on the phone in some way. They disable certain features. Bob
^^^^That is true but where there is a will there is a way. I'm on VZW and have a fully unlocked v3c & v3m. The problem with the lock down is because VZW has there custom UI on the phone. There are certain things that can be unlocked by seems, but to get it fully done, the best bet is to flash the phone to one of the leaked firmwares to get the MOTO UI back on it.
That's what I was afraid of...having to hack it in some way. Yep, I'm on Verizon. I'm hesitating to flash it or do anything else to it yet, just until I'm sure it's even working properly for everything else (it's already been freezing up when I add quite a lot of songs onto the SD disk, as well as at other times). Once I'm confident it's working alright and I don't have to take it back, I might just consider these unlocking procedures, which seem to be needed anyway due to the slow response time of the functions (I've been reading that this is also due to the Verizon software). I'd hoped to add my own ringtones without having to do anything to the phone that would nullify the warranty, but it's looking like there may not be another option. Thanks for all your help everyone! This is a great resource!!
You'll need to get the songs onto a computer first. Does your music player have a USB port or any other way to connect to a computer? Once there, use Audacity to shorten it (download link and step by step guide: Convert CD Audio Files To MP3 Ring Tones ), or if you're not that concerned about the quality level of the ringtone, use one of the free ring tone conversion web sites out there.
