Questions/ Rant I really really like the Razr, but I've been reading reviews for the CDMA version VZW has, and they're pretty lame. Everyone complains about loose keypads, slow software, etc. etc. I've played with it constantly, and I HATE the VZW UI. WHY VERIZON?!! WHY?!!! They ruined a perfectly good phone. I LOVE Moto's UI, and as usual VZW ruined a good phone. But anywho.... Here's my question: Does anyone who works for VZW, or has an inside scoop, know of any new Razr models for Verizon that are could be coming out in the near future? I know there's no chance in heck that I'll be able get around the stupid UI, but is there maybe a chance that they'll come out with a Razr that will have firmware that will actually allow you to program soft keys, joystick keys, and menus, like Moto intented? All I really want to do is program my keys to fit my needs!! Is that too much to ask?!?!! Or, does anyone know if they will update the current firmware so at least you don't have a year's delay when scrolling thru menus? Thanx!!
MeNext Standby! I would not be thinking about any new Moto Razr updates or releases by VZW.... until you are 100% positive that they will not be offering the Samsung MM A900. This Samsung "blade" model is worlds ahead of the already archaic Motorola Razr (by comparison). I am hearing that VZW will "spring" this Samsung AA900 version by means of their typical very expensive full page newspaper ads.....soon. I could be wrong.......but: I'd put your query (for the moment) on hold. Dan
Dan, Where are you hearing these stories about the Sammy "Blade" comming to VZW? I would be interested in that phone!!!
SB A couple of weeks back (maybe three) there was a front page article in the New York Times about the comparisons between the Razr and the Blade. The Samsung came way out on top (with only the exception of battery life and maybe one other hardware issue). In that article there was a reference by the writer (after communicating with VZW) that the AA900 may be coming soon, to a VZW store near you. No promises, however. Dan
I hope VZW picks up the Blade. But it won't and even if it did, VZW would cripple all the cool things that we would want!!
Reviews are very subjective and no cell phone is 100% perfect for everyone. Here's a little experiment....look up reviews for your current phone (either here, or phonescoop.com or howardforums.com) and determine how they stack up to your own experience with the phone. I personally have had the LG vx4400 for the past 2.5yrs and judging by the past reviews I would be very hesitant to buy that phone today (many bad reviews about reboots, bad reception, bad battery life, etc...)....however I've had no issues with it in the past and have been very pleased with it's performance. So the moral of the story....online reviews give an indication of what "might" happen with your phone, but not necessarily what "will" happen....much like you "might" get struck by lightning one day. I'll be upgrading to a RAZR soon myself. Just my two cents. (ps. you always have 15days to return it)
http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/verizon-wireless-users/13872-samsung.html I've used the A900 and thought it was an absolutely great phone. Check the thread above.
I used to have a RAZR with Cingular Wireless, and I, honestly, was thouroughly unimpressed. It's just your basic Moto UI (almost identical to the v400, v5xx, v6xx etc.) in a snappy looking package. Having the RAZR is all about showing it off ... "Hey, check me out, I'm COOL...I have the RAZR" When in fact, it is all for show. My opinion, wait for the Samsung AA900...it's a far superior phone. Or hey, maybe eventually Verizon will quit using their Stupid UI and start listening to their customers needs and wants. Hope this helps!
If anyone is interested in reading the article in the New York Times comparing the Blade (aka A900) and the Razor, here is the info: Razr vs. Blade: Cloning Is Only Skin Deep by David Pogue Published: January 26, 2006 http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/26/t...tml?ex=1142053200&en=739713f8f67e9f7a&ei=5070
Well I got the Razr because of my ex. She said the same thing, the only reason anyone would have one is for show. So I guess I did buy it for show (well just to show her anyway).
Another very important thing to look at regarding the RAZR being only a "show-off" phone is the fact that Cingular, T-Mobile, and now Verizon is selling the RAZR in different colors. So far we have silver, black, grayish-silver (v3c) and pink (v3, v3c). I imagine that color scheme will only expand from there and so on. Don't get me wrong, the RAZR is a very nice phone...good reception, good voice quality. But the price doesn't justify the means for me. Its just too much to pay for a phone that has half of the capabilities of other V-Cast phones available right now. We'll see about the AA900 later...but for now, I look just fine carrying my Samsung a950.
