ESN issues are a CDMA thing. The fact is, no one on this site has the code you need. You can do a Google search for GSM phone unlockers. You might run across a free service, though many charge for the option.

AT&T only gives you the code free IF you're a customer in good standing. If you're not an AT&T customer they probably will not give you the code.

It does not matter if the original owner was an AT&T customer in good standing, all AT&T will care is if YOU are a customer in good standing.

The way I see it here are your options:

    • Ask original owner to get you the code from AT&T
    • Ask a friend who's an AT&T customer to get you the code from AT&T
    • Find a third-party unlocker or unlocking instructions on Google
    • Sell the phone and buy an unlocked one instead
